Inspection help????

Post by samprinci »

Hey Guys, just thought id ask, if an one is is Melbourne this weekend, going to inspect a FB ute on sadi. Since you fellarz are wealth of knowledge & experience, Just thought I ask, see if any one could lend a hand, or knows any one in area who could help out....

Been browsing the forum, n from my previous car, the EJ, Ive got a bit of an idea of what to look out for when inspecting a car, but u can never have to much help I recon?????.

But other wise while we r on the subject, have put together a bit of a list of what to look out for. if u wanna ad to it ???? that would be great...
TA fellarz.

(this is a collection of people previous suggestion)
• The floor pans and sills are major jobs if rusted, so spend a bit of time having a good look underneath.
• Take a magnet to check along the bottom of doors, rear wings, front guards for large amounts of body filler( ie the magnet will not stick to filler).
• head light peaks
• top rear corners and bottoms of front guards (very common)
• end of the sills under the bottom of front guards (very common)
• outer sills (very common)
• plenum chamber under dash
• inner sills
• underbody bracing
• around front of sub frame (very common)
• rear legs of subframe
• corners of front windscreen in where doors shut
• bottom of rear 1/4's
• around rear screen
• section inside tail gate

Thats a good list.

With the magnet, put a piece of cloth between the magnet and paint to stop it scratching the paintwork as you run the magnet along the suspect rusty areas.
I can't think what to write here so this will do.

are they the utes from bendigo pretty sure jacko's been to see them

also cosider when looking at the floors they usually look better from underneath than they actually are try to see them from the top, if you can only see them from underneath give them a good thump with yor fist checking for weakness or if the owner has no obgection poke around with a screwdriver
if yor flying to melbourne a screwdriver could be an issue
