Number plate position

Post by Harv »

The FB sedan I bought recently has finally gotten it's old black-and-yellow "CHO" number plates back (after quite some interaction with the RTA - thanks Jamie!). It looks like I'm going to have to drill the plate to line up with the FB's bumper bar holes - no drama there, but I want to be confident before I start belting holes into the plate.

When I bought the car, the (now swapped off) plates were mounted so that the top of the plate was level with the bumper bar holes (i.e. "hanging down"). According to legend, the plates were originally mounted (by Holden) higher with a rubber spaced to make them sit upright. If I line up the bottom of the plate with the bumper bar holes (i.e. "sitting up") it looks way too high (at least to my unedjamickated eyes :D ). I'm guessing the right spot is somewhere in between.

Can someone please give me their views on how the plates were originally mounted? Photos, as always, appreciated. Apologies in advance if this has been covered before - some searching didn't yield too much.

There's a how to by Ratbox for mounting number plates...

My guess is plates were mounted however the owner/dealer chose to fit them. Which means there could be many and varied ways to do it.
Speed and Style........... One day I'll get the speed bit.
