I am yet to go this trip - but will probably go to the n'th degree - only two things stop cars, brakes and something equally as big...............traffic lights do not STOP cars - keep an eye out everyone - it is becoming more regular to watch traffic pass across even though you face green..............

thinking of replacing my lines with stainless - probably won't make much difference to my use of the old bus, but perhaps for the next generation/s.......

frats,

I have, firstly I bored out the hole in the fire wall so it will fit then flattened out the ridges on the fire wall with a hammer until the master cylinder was flush when bolted up.

Just a small detail that you will need to do, make sure you run the brake lines through the proportioning valve before boosting the front, if infact this is the way you are going? Trev 8) .

is it possible to run the back straight to the drum rear and run the front through booster to the front and not use a proportioning valve

Yes it is possible but you still may need a proportioning valve setup depending on how the final braking effect is.

I spoke with Terry at Hydroboost in Melbourne recently about this and he thought in my case (307 into EK) with HQ front calipers and HR rear that I would be better to use a VH44 booster on the front ( VH44 boosters have a bigger cylinder than VH40 boosters) and leave the rear unboosted. From memory some early Valiants and/or Fords had boosted front brakes only??

He felt with the VH44 boosted front HQ brakes and unboosted HR rear that I should get near the desired 60/40 braking proportion.

If not, then a proportioning valve is needed. You can buy aftermarket adjustable proportioning valve setups which would be a better.
I can't think what to write here so this will do.

i've done this a couple of times, i ran the front section of the brakes through the booster and the rear unboosted but used drum brake wheel cylinders on the rear

thanks for the replies guys
can someone post photos of the master cylinder mounted so I can see the clearances
trev did you reinforce the mount at all because by our measurements the drivers side bolt will only be going through the firewall and not into the pedal box

I can't remember, I'm pretty sure I used thick washers.
Just because I did it, doesn't mean I did it properly  , Trev 8) .

hi there i removed my pedal box and welded an extra bit on so there was something to bolt to ..

Image
holes for hq master

Image

Templete i made so i drill out the right hole got hq master .. not 2 holes fit the old ek pattern so it could be bolted to the wall to drill out the main hole, the other 2 holes are the location holes for securing the HQ master

Image
modified pedal box so Hq master has a secure mounting

hope this helps a little
