Not in our eyes (or ears).............. J & M
have to think back to when we were kids, I suppose - I used to joust a lot with my elder sister - but my parents were always (told much later in life) never concerned about our behavior in company........... always complimented on our manners and "seen but not heard" or speak when spoken to" bringing up............. guess I'm off the chain now......... and don't i like to type.................
all kids have to be allowed to be kids................
And some older ones too..............

I was only having a similar conversation with another, and mentioned to him that, riding a bike on the road...is now a sin. To allow your kids to climb the highest tree is taboo.. To climb on the roof of your house is not allowed
The one thing we don't let our kids do is play till after dark and go somewhere without telling us, I myself used to do the opposite....come home just before dinner or bedtime and miss out on dinner altogether, and always went off without telling someone.
Maybe the old days no one used to care as much as we do now, or is it that we are more protective.
Regards John

Hi John,
it is indeed a sad indictment on society that kids have to be protected to the extent that they cannot see danger and cannot learn to identify it .......... I don't want to sound political, but when I was a kid, no-one would dare touch a child or even speak to one without a very sound and justified reason........... what have we done, and why do we need to protect our children/grandchildren so rigorously that they are stifled from being ........... kids...................
We complain of their attention to electronic games, refusal to go outside to take in natural surroundings or even use their creative imagination to dream games....................
My parents would never be concerned of my whereabouts - they knew I wouldn't stray beyond my limits without permission..............but of course we did, just beyond that limit.............
I don't have the answers, John - I very much wish I did...............
But again, I must compliment you and Margie on the behavior of our junior neighbors...........
I hope they enjoyed being kids in the week after we all drudgingly made our way back home.................
Very much look forward to catching up in Bendigo............
