I reused the headlining in my sedan with considerable success. Used a donor lining to patch up a few torn bits, mainly C pillar bottoms where the rear seat back had come in and out too many times. Main issue I found is that the material that the wire bows go through tends to rot.
Yeah mate the material that hold the bows is pretty soft but I’ll really have a good look at it when the time gets closer.

Clay how did you clean your roof lining?

White spirits on a rag from recollection but trimmer suggested soap and water with a nail brush. Lay on a bench top and scrub vigorously.

I found “shift it” worked really well - spray on and a soft brush then wipe off well with wet rag

Kenco Shift It (from Autobarn) is awesome on old trim. It's an old Steve Jackson trick that works really well. Soap-and-water the trim, rinse, then work in the Shift It with a nailbrush. Rinse and repeat. Dry off, then add Armourall/Meguiars etc to protect it.

Cheers,

So after a relaxing festive weekend I hit the holden again today.

Last night I hung the front side of the Y frames in the acid bath to soak overnight and I gave them a clean up this morning.

Mandatory coating in penetrol seems to tickle my fancy and I think it looks good.

Spent the rest of the day cutting the front drivers floor pan out for the repair, I tried to not got too big on it.

Yes a lot of dirt in the floor support sections even though I have clean the absolute hell out of the underbody.

It just goes to show you will never get all of the dirt out.

Last job for the day was to drop one leg of the Y frame back into the acid bath for an overnight soak.

It should come up pretty good with this process I think.

That is a great way to clean the old panels, just remember a good rinsing then rust proofing the inside.

I had my whole car dipped in an acid bath, saved weeks of work and exposed all the hidden rust.

Great Job look forward to some more progress.

Should come up nice and clean with the remnant paint intact. Just what you’re after.

Cut my teeth on the first rust repair today.
The rust hole was the size of a 5c piece but the surrounding metal was so thin I had to replace a larger section just to get decent metal to weld onto.
