A Question
for Greg ,Harv , and anyone else running a V8 ---What Size Alternator are you running and is it low or high mount Photos will help with positioning
OH Greg do you want to rent out your wheels when it comes to rego time for me as I have 15" on back & 14" on front just to drop the front a little more I have HZ HQ stud pattern

Bosch BXU12121A 120amp unit, driven by a Bosch 11A1065 fanbelt. Low mount, just clears the sway bar. Car starts, but idle speed is not enough to excite the alternator (lazy, lumpy old Chev) and idiot light stays on. Blip the throttle, alternator gets enough revs to excite it, and the light goes off (and stays off).

I think my alternator is 80amp, and like harvs is a bosch. I bought an exciter kit which I posted before to kick start the charging, it comes with an electronic box as big a match box and led light. If you use a globe it needs to be a certain wattage (can't remember the size 3 watt maybe ?).

My wheels are also 14 inch HQ front and &*#@ rear stud pattern.

Mine is similar to your's Greg but adjusting bracket is seperate I had to lift my motor 3/8" to clear steering shaft I wouldn't think that it would make that much difference but I can't get it to fit properly there doesn't seam to be enough room between motor and chase rail

Bill,

Forgot to mention my rail has been shaved a bit for clearance.

Harv's Alternator is also attached at the block where as mine uses the bracket, Harv's is closer to the engine.

Yep, my bracket is home-made, cut out of a bit of plate.

I promise I painted it and replaced the fasteners sometime in the last 13 years

I have got mine sitting like Harv"s I think from what I can see your earth is in the way Harv you have mounted in the lower hole in the block and you adjusting bracket in the top hole with home made bracket It's been tooooooo cold and wet for an OLD bloke to be working in the shed today and I have a dental appointment tomorrow so that's out to. All I have to do now is to work out my adjusting bracket setup if I can't do that I will go back to a high mount fingers XXX

Automotive belts are made to SAE standard SAE J636 V-Belts and Pulleys. Metric belts are labeled in three parts:
• A number denoting the closest mm width of the belt (eg an “11” belt is roughly 11mm wide). This ranges from 6 to 23.
• The letter A, denoting automotive
• A number denoting the belt length (e.g. “990” for a belt that is 990mm long).

Most automotive aftermarket belts that are readily available in Australia (Bosch, Dayco) are metric automotive. Note that Holden grey motors use two different types of pulleys – a wide belt on the earlier Holdens (FX and FJ), and a narrow belt on the later (FE through EJ) grey motors. For FX and FJ Holdens, a type 15A belt is used, whilst the later FE through EJ Holden grey motors utilize the narrower 11A belts.
