So , The question for today is , are people born stupid or does it just happen with age

Plan for this weekend was to finish off all the litle bits needed to get the car movable , put in new tailshaft , speedo cable , fill the diff with oil , blah , blah , blah .

Well got all those bits done and got it down off the stands and decided that I would take it for a spin up the driveway and back , 500m up and 500m back , what can go wrong , right :?

Still havent fitted the pedal brakes (stupid No1) , but the handbrake works good  (stupid No2) , got to the top of the driveway and everything looks good , gearbox a bit low on fluid , but I will fix that when I get back to the shed , steering feels good , no other alarming noises  .

Turn her around and head back for the shed , 300 m of flat and then downhill to a 90deg bend ,just idleing along , get to the end of the flat and pull the handbrake on , hmmm not slowing down much , chuck her into neutral , still not slowing down , bloody hell I think , if she keeps picking up speed I wont make the bend at the bottom , so I decide to ditch off into a small clearing at the side of the drive , bit tight but should be ok , safer than bend.

Damn would of made it too , if the bloody steering wheel didnt come off in my hand (stupid No 4 and stupid look I bet you too), only going slowly up the driveway and back what do you need the steering nut for (stupid No3).

Well here is a pic my son took for me at the end of the straight as I was enjoying my first trip out :D

Image

And heres the pic I took after my first, drowning my sorry beer.
And this was after I kicked it back in so the wheel would turn

Image

Guess painted by the end of the month has gone out the window , and a few more beers too    :esurprised: :x :(

Bloody crimp I put on the handbrake cable slipped , the more I pulled on it , the more it slipped , was pulling pretty bloody hard at the end

Bit hard to tell the damage in the pic , but it has put a nasty crease up the centre of the guard , and pushed it back onto the door and dented all the leading edge of that too  :(

F#%K  yor ok that's the big thing  could be worse though a mate was building a wild chopped convertable F100 big block 460 this was a full on show truck, wild last minute thrash to finish it the day before summernats got it done about 2 in the morning maiden voyage down the road all we heard was a big rev tyre screach and BANG raced down the road first thing we saw were two 18" wide tyre marks and the truck parked up a telegraph pole and the guy sitting in the midle of the road crying, he gave it a hit lit the tyres flicked sideways and the rest is history totaled the truck including cracking the block and broke his foot, i've never seen somebody so drunk for 5 days in a row ever
sometimes yor just better off shitting in yor hands and clapping

Mr Rusty,

Let me just start off by saying your driveway entry is nothing but breath taking !!!! :D

As for the stupidity part don't worry, we are building these cars right :?

Mate I feel for you with the deepest of sympathy's I spent 2 years building my group NB racer and crashed it ripping the whole drivers side out first race. F(^%#$$^**^%$#$$%&*RK
Image
Sorry for the shit photo thats all I have.

Cars are here on this earth to test your endurance !!!!

Hey I bet you that you were not really happy with the guard anyway

Thats nothing mate keep going it will all end one day and the smile will hurt whilst your in the seat.

Regards Greg
So many cars so little time!

Browno , they just dont stop with no brakes do they :( , nearly put it into the back of the shed as well , had to put it in park to stop it , good for the box eh .

No injury to me Mick ,only my pride , was a slow speed crash  , but man if it was finished like your mate ,I would cry too.

Greg , I am very lucky , have a nice piece of bush to hide in :D , bloody cars eh :| , you are right was not happy with either guard ,but not how I wanted to fix it

Could have been worse could have had the new bonnet on that have been working on all week and creased that too .

Stupid thing is , done the goo after smacking it and hurled around the paddock and went around the bend I was worried about no problems :(

i know i shoulden't be laughing mate but i can picture your drive way as i was reading your post and can only imagine the thoughts going through your head as you got to that turn you would have been laughing if you had got it in to the clearing in front of the shed.only thing that could have made it worse would be if you had ran into one of the donor cars out side the shed       ive stopped laughing now. no wait        its started again .     .at least its an easy fix.

Was talking to my engineer checking on a couple of things , forgot to tell me he wants side intrusion bars in the doors too , had to burn off a bit more paint , going backwards this week
Image

Another piece to keep the engineer happy , had to put baby seat retaining bolts in for the new back seat , like they will get used

Made up a curved piece and welded it in to try and match the dash
