Re: 14 x 7 Tasmans on an EK

Run what ya brung and hope it's enough
Re: 14 x 7 Tasmans on an EK
Yeah, well, I had my Tasmans all lying on the shed floor recently (I've had them stacked on top of each other) and I noticed that one was wider than the other threeTrev wrote:I read that a 195 can go on, seems a bit skinny to me, I have 215/75/14 on my 7 inch rims.
My electroplater told me that he can't rechrome my Tasmans without taking the alloy centres out (the plating emulsion attacks the alloy). So it looks like sandblasting and powdercoating is the go, perhaps all black and then polishing the centres.
I'm sticking to my 195/75/14s as they are already on their way from the US and I also don't want the tyres to rub or hit anything when I go about lowering the car.
Re: 14 x 6 Tasmans on an EK
I changed the title but all the post still refer to the 14 x 7 rims
, it would take too long to change all those

So who are you dealing with in the states mate?? I've been thinking of doing the same while the exchange rate is good but wasn't sure who to deal with, any issues getting them here and roughly how much for freight costs to Australia?
Thanks in advance for any info
Mick

Hey Mick,
I'm getting mine through a contact who is bringing a whole container of stuff over from the US. He restores military vehicles and motorcycles (the Jeeps and bikes in the Australian War Memorial were done by him) and he knows the owners of Coker Tires.
Trev, you're just plain lazy
Cheers,
Andrew

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, chrome them!!! Will look heaps better. What holds the centre in anyway?
Speed and Style........... One day I'll get the speed bit.

DR, the alloy centres are welded to the steel rims (TIG welded maybe?). I don't know how much it would cost to remove the centres and then reweld them in after the rims are chromed. My guess is quite a fair bit

Re: 14 x 6 Tasmans on an EK
Just a suggestion to get the mags looking a bit better, I saw a set of Tasmans on an FC at the 09 Autofest at Corowa and talked to the owner, the guy had painted the centres satin black with original Tasman centre caps polished his outer 13" rims had blistered chrome so he had put on a set of wide chrome dress rims to hide the old chrome and with whitewalls it looked really cool.
I know its a budget fix but it looked the part and might help you until you decide what you want to do

Re: 14 x 6 Tasmans on an EK
Yeah Mick, Thats what I did with mine. I use GTS trim rings and it covers all the chrome from untrained eyes. Most of the time I run full Pontiac caps over the Tassies cause the caps won't fit on standard HT rims. I sold FBMAD a set of tassies at Yamba Nats that were bolted in centres! If you take the centres out for rechroming, You can have them rewelded at the offset you like and need.

Thanks for the advice Mick and Theo
. I'll do some research into what my options are with the Tasmans.

Andrew,
Stewart
ditto that what Theo said. I was told a similar thing could be done for my Spyder mags by a wheel place called Moreton & May at Warwick Farm. Was going to cost me a pretty penny so have put them on old until I get the wagon on the road.I sold FBMAD a set of tassies at Yamba Nats that were bolted in centres!

Thanks Stewart, yeah I figured getting the centres taken out would cost a bomb. Eric's got my engine now plus a wishlist of modifications, so the wheels are going to have to wait if I do choose to go down that path.
