Front Pillar Rust - where do I start ?

Post by Cuscus »

I have severe rust on the horizontal section of the pillar , under the windscreen , but above the front door. It starts under the back corner windscreen trim ( FB special ) and runs out to the guard.

I know I have to pull the windscreen out , and weld angle in. However the flat section which catches the rain coming straight down , and leaves etc ( and has the water deflector , and door seal attached to it, is rusted right through. I can weld but I cant post pics, which I bet would help.

Has anyone tackled this job and got dirty pics to show me how they did it ?I assume nobody makes sections for this front pillar.

All advice is welcome.

Cheers David

Without seeing it its hard to tell, but if you can get a rust free section out of a wreck that would be the easiest option. Or else make your on patch panels.
Speed and Style........... One day I'll get the speed bit.

Yeah - lets see 'em - I am sure we can find you some patch panels , as long as you arent in a screaming hurry. There 2 wrecks in Marvel Loch with good "A" pillar sections in 'em.

.... and welcome to the forum David - another FB owner :D :D :D

Ok I finally got with the times and learnt how to post a pic.

Here are my rust issue and hoping to see how others had tackled these ones. Yes Blacky that would be good to come up to kalamunda and chop and grind with you. My first real gf lived up there so it will be like old times.

They take your credit card number first ,a girl comes on the phone with a sexy voice and asks how she can get your engine up and running.
I can't think what to write here so this will do.

Back to the question at hand  !

Before cutting the rust out i would make new parts to be welded in so you can copy the shape, instead of cutting it up and then saying "I can't remember what it looked like" :? , Trev 8) .

Welcome Dave.

I really agree with Trev, make the copies before you cut.
I learnt that one the hard way.

I've done mine with some pics and comments.
Would be in the last few pages of my rebuilt.
