fb van

Post by leadsled_van »

i just bought an fb van from victoria and drove it home to QLD. it's had an 8 year rebuild but didn't quiet get finished before the owner was recently forced to sell. van is a blue/grey windowless fitted with LH torana front crossmember with HQ front disks, ecotec V6, auto and commodore diff and black chasers. interior has carpet, some ugly buckets from a mazda and a VK? steering wheel.
it needs lowering, so i hope to make a start on that while replacing the cracked front lower wishbones.
this is my 1st FB, so i will be asking a few questions. previous cars were FC wagon, HR Prem wagon, HQ wagon, HZ Pano and an FJ ute which i had for 16 years, this will be my daily driver, needed something to keep a couple of surfboards in, need to be prepared at all times.
will get some pics up soon

Congrats on the purchase :D , it sounds like it needs you to put your personalized finishing touches and you will have a great van :D , cracked lower wishbones (both) doesn't sound too good though, wonder what caused that? Trev 8) .

thanks Trev, not sure how they were cracked, both in the same place near the balljoints, also had a broken shockie mount, previous owner must have done some speedhump jumping in it. good chance to drop the front down a bit while the springs are out, then the rear needs a 4" drop.
here's some pics as i got it:

I'd say by looking at those pics that it's lowered to very near,if not on, the bump rubbers and mix that with some humps and bumps and there's your cracked wishbones.

Nice looking van there I might add 8) 8) 8)
I can't think what to write here so this will do.

thanks for your input on the caps, i've ordered some smoothie hubcaps (Hollywood moon caps). i was going to take a pic tonight with the whitewalls and lower front springs but after fitting the new control arms i tightened a shockie bolt to tight and busted it, drilled a hole in the bolt and tried to remove it with an easyout but broke off the nut the shockie bolt goes through thats welded to the inside of wishbone.
hey FB MAD, there was about 4" of clearance between the bump stops, i'm not sure the springs were even lowered, (they now have a coil misssing) it has a torana front xmember, looks like it might be able to go lower than a HR front before hitting.
