Poor heater temp
hi guys my little heater is not putting out much warmth .. near to zero some advice would be great ..
I have flushed heater and flow seems to be fine, check block fitting and there is water there .. but hoses in and out are luke warm ?
im thinking maybe i have them conected wrong ?
my 186 also runs heater manifold so theres lots of plumbing curently i have heater inlet ( i think )coming off water pump and return going to the thermoste housing ..
Whilst when i rev the motor i can see movement in radiator could could rhe water pump be low in out put ?
Thanks Dave

Hiya EKdave..
I am betting ya havent got a thermostat in there.
The reason the heater isnt getting hot is because the radiator is doing its job....
.. and that is why ya can see the water moving around past the filler neck after start up.
Whip the two 9/16" bolts out of the thermo housing and see if theres a thermostat living in there.
If there isnt.. then fit one.
It'll hold the water back in the block and help things get nice and warm in the block... well at least 160 degrees........ and in return the air coming through the heater should be warmer.

Ditto to Reddo's comments above
Most heater low temp probs can be traced back to a faulty or non existant thermostat.
Always use a thermostat in a car, they were put there for a reason by car manufacturers.
They still use them today for the same reason.

I can't think what to write here so this will do.

Hey Dave..
Just re-read your message.
Ya didnt state whether you have a heater withj a fan attached.. smiths, nasco or whatever .. or...
the poverty pack heater.
If ya have the second one. I.e: just a heater core strapped up under the dash with a hose in and out you wont get much warmth out of it while parked.
They rely on air blowing through them via the vent to push the heat down from behind the dash towards your feet.

well not this one sadly trev is not the heater it the water curculation ..
just checked thermastat it works fine , ran motor for 30 mins and removed hose to heater and manifold and stuff all water flow no blockages, replaced rad cap just in case it was a presurr isssue .. stll no flow to these hoses ..
it seem it can only be the water pump ?
i have a vk 202 water pump they look the same so maybe i will try change it tomorrow and see ...

lol no not stupid blacky i checked that 1 st up removed hoses the make sure they was water coming out from those points .. im not sure what the flow movement is around the block and wondered if i had 2 pressure pushing from both directions, but removed hoses from manifold whilst running and no flow just a intial dripped of a few mills, i realy expected a good flow out of the hose ?
I was going to suggest that too Blacky
, regarding the flow to the inlet manifold I once filled my car with the green coolant before a long Nationals trip, on the trip it overheated and I topped it up with water, jump forward about 2 years and when I swapped the twin carb manifold to the single, there was still green coolant in the manifold from at least 3 years back, so what does this say about the flow of these things

ah has me stuffed .. i can get a flow out the heater in let line but it doesnt make it back out .. have conected a hose to the inlet and disconnected the out let and get a full flow, i can only guess the pumps are not really desinged to pump water all over the place , im thinking of disconnect the manifold jacket to see is that aid curculation .. have not changed out the water pump at this stage , cant be stuffed ..
look like the only answer is fit air con and move to sunny QLD
hmm maybe a little in line electric pump will get it moving .. lol
