Painting multi colours

Post by Finny »

When you are painting more than one colour, what is the best process to use. :?
I'm a little concerned about masking over freshly painted areas, (within a day or 2 ?

For example if painting an FB, Red with White inserts on the sides.

Paint all Red, then mask over new paint and do white ?
Mask the white area out. Paint Red then mask over the red and paint White ?
Paint White first, then mask over the white paint and do Red ?
Or other options ??????????????

Thanks, that was what I thought. but wanted to check with those that had done it before.
:D
I will be using acrylic metallic and pearl, with clear over the top.

So I was also thinking do the metallic and pearl, then clear over everything.
But wasnlt sure about the timing to get the clear on and how long to leave the metallic and pearls. :? :?

Scrap that. I think :? :?

Reading through my previous notes.
Metallic and Pearl, DON'T get rubbed back, but the clear over the top does ?

Clear should be applied about 2 hours after the metallic and pearl.
So I need to do each one separately ????? otherwise the paint won't be dry enough to mask up for the other colour/s. ??? before the clear goes on :? :?

I have had this idea for colours however I haven't seen any cars done this way before. Surprised that I haven't been able to find an example any where so far.

Looking for an example of any EK or FB with the mid section blacked out. Other than on Black cars of cause.
Preferably with a white roof.
Top of the doors and rear pillars, etc

This is just an example, borrowed someones car. Red and White show up the difference the best.

Any images of real cars out there ?
Any issues with doing this ?

Or on a wagon.
Pink is not the best colour to use as a contrast example, but idea is still there.
