Hi all

Been lurking for a while - first post

Now the surprised owner of a 1960 FB ute (20 yrs ago, mentioned to an old friend of the family - if you ever want to sell her, give me a yell - anyway I got called :))

She is pretty rough - not one of the old girls found in a barn, this one has lived outside next to it. Registered and runs (barely), jumped in and got dirty today replacing all the slave cylinders so we can now move the car (old ones had seized). Plan is to get it to a "safe daily driver" stage over time with some safety/driveability upgrades. Small jobs we can do (family thing with my Dad and Son) but due to space, ability and time I am going to hand off some of the larger projects to the professionals.

I know there is a ton of experience in the forum, was hoping some of you could share your thoughts:

1 - Car has some rust (floors/doors) and I assume that most of this is replaceable/repairable - a concern though is the front sub frame, has an older repair but I reckon it needs a look. I live SoR (Willetton is close), could anyone recommend someone in the area that could have a look/fix - or at a minimum give me an idea if I am just flogging a dead horse?

2 - HR front end, I have read a number of posts and want to do this (drivability). I don't think I have the skills so would be after some recommendations locally (although I suspect most of you do this sort of work yourselves)

Even better - someone that could do both

Thanks in advance, this is only the start and assuming that it passed point one (ie is worth repairing) I am sure I will be asking more noob questions

hey welcome on greg its one of those things that is hard to answer maybe post up some photos if you can you gotta also remember these cars are now gettin on 47 years old so its allways gonna be an issue about finding something with very little work needed good luck mate

Thanks for the reply, understand it's one of those "how longs a piece of string" questions

Will try and sort some pics.

Guess I was chasing a panel (restorer) shop that you guys would recomend, my theory was to drive it around there and see what they think

Hi Greg, and welcome to the forum.
Congrats on the ute. :D :D

You should add a Suburb/state to your Profile, makes it a little easier to relate to questions etc. I still have no idea where SoR is ?

Rust replacement parts or welds can be done on anything. You can always find someone to do repair work for you. It all boils down to how much you have to pay vs what you can do yourself or get help to do.

This is in the W.A section so I'm thinking thats where he is from :idea: :wink: .

Welcome Greg, Rust repair is one thing that might need a few skills but I recon if you have some idea about mechanics you could do the HR front end yourself, it's just an unbolt the old and bolt in the new kind of job, good luck with it, and get some pic's up so we all can have a look, we like pic's, Trev 8) .
