can i swap coils to test a grey motor with 186s coil ?

I guess it depends on if a resistor is needed and whether the coil needs one. I'm not too familiar with electrics.

Hi Guys

The coil must match the wiring harness in the car.

A Holden that originally had a Grey motor will have no ballast resistor in the harness. Red motored models had a resistor in the harness. A 186S coil is an 8V coil which requires a resistor in the harness to operate properly. If you fit the later coil in an early car, the coil current will be too high. The points will burn out very quickly & the coil could cop some damage also.

ok thanks for that dr terry glad didnt i give it try now , its sorted and running well so good it went from morrisett to parkes elvis fest n back no troubles :)
