changing from linkages to cable

Hi all. I have used HEMIS idea and gone the L300 cable to use for my van. I cant find the link again for it. BUT......

I would really appreciate a hand

I have drilled holes in floor....end of cable now fitted onto my existing and original EK accelerator pedal.

Cable now goes through firewall where choke should.

I dont have anything to hold cable onto, so bought a "universal" clamp from outlaws. Have used 2 small bits of rubber hose and 2 washers either side to hold and clamp the cable into the clamp. Next thing is.....fitting it up exactly to my carb (350 Holley. I will take pics today and try to upload them, so you can see exactly what it is im doing..but if anyone would like to give me a hand, i would be sooo appreciative.

cheers
Flic

im sure if you let ppl know where you are, youll get a couple of locals to help out.

the main thing is getting the spring tension right

if you have a few spares to play with youll be right

ok.....

have set it all up.... (might have to message thommo yet) :P

seems i have not even got half pedal. Underneath my car, the accelerator pedal pivot doesnt seem to go very far back at all. When i first started doing it, i had to scrape away years worth of rust n crap from it. I still have a good inch for the lever/pivot to move back, but it doesnt seem to want to.

Anyone got any ideas???

is it that the pedal isnt returning to its original position?

if so then the return spring tension isnt high enough; try a higher rated spring.

not the pedal return

No...inside the car...the pedal is fine......

underneath..at the accelerator pedal pivot thingo...(at the underbody...that little lever doesnt go all the way back in the small hole thats there....

is it supposed to???

spoke to HEMI this morning

Well after speaking with HEMI (Mark) this morning, it might just be my actual accelerator pedal thats not giving me even half throttle...so anyway, here is the rusty (yes ive cleaned it up even) pedal lever under base of car. NOTE THE LEVER AT BASE ONLY GOES TO THE RIGHT HALF WAY..SHOULD IT GO FURTHER??

here is the cable and how its fitted underneath car

and NOW..here is how i fitted my cable using washers either side and some rubber hose clamped (bracket is a universal one i got from outlaws)

and the rest of my set up....below....(pardon the bad photography but its bluddy hot in the shed tonight....although nice n cool in the pit)

Just by looking at the photo and not actually having an original pedal assembly in my hand to go by, I'd say some of your problem is that there isn't enough cable pull from the pedal actuating lever ( where the cable end meets the pedal).

If you cut, extend, and reweld that lever you will get more pedal lever travel and consequent further cable travel accordingly.

At a guess, I'd probably extend it by about an inch or so and see if that helps.

Not sure from the photo but it looks like you are running a holley ??
and if so, most of them have about 2 inch throttle travel at the carby. As it is I'd guess you would only be getting about 1/2 of that at present.

Might help, might not help, but see what happens.

hmm..so...

has anyone else taken out their accelerator pedal...and found that upon doing so....the bolts are so rounded off and old and rusty???

hmm...tackle this how??

have sprayed and sprayed...might just keep on spraying WD40 on em till they drop out... (i could hope)

Any ideas anyone? As im going to weld on another inch to it, hopefully get more leverage.

Can you leave it in, make some sort of shield to keep the heat from the floor and do the job where it is? Trev 8) .
