has anyone

Post by karsten »

has any one shifted the rear spring hangers on a car or ute ,

my problem is that the spring bottoms out against the hanger theres no clearance between the spring and hanger at all,, so when you hit a bump it sort of has no where to go and stops the shackel being able to osalate,,

so i measured the spring and there 3cm longer than a standard sedan spring that i compared it to,,, so ive either gotta change springs or move the hanger back or maybe heat and bend hanger back to get clearance

i dont know what the springs are out of as it has a volvo diff ,, but they look like a holden spring ,, so im thinking to grind the huck rivets off and move the hangers back and drill right through chassis and fit bolts right through,,,, just wonderd if this is somthing that anyone has seen and which is the best fix ,,,,obviosly the heat and bend option would be easy,,

any ideas,,,, its not the original ute spring ,,as its only 4 leafs with no load spring :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:
when they start building them like that again i will buy a new car of them

It might just be easier & safer to fit FB/EK springs karsten.

we did the spring hangers on the van, i bought EH thinking they would fit but had same issue you mention, but we welded the hanger back on, if i was doing it again would prolly just look for the correct spring, wasn't a real drama

If the springs look like they will fit as is except they are too long,I'd have a go at heating and bending the spring hangers.

But rat's idea of getting the right springs would be the easiest fix.
I can't think what to write here so this will do.
