Auto Grey Motor Twin Carb Setup
Auto Grey Motor Twin Carb Setup
I am looking at fitting twin carbs to my 138, either Strombergs or SU's. I am not looking for power increase or anything just looks (and my old stomberg is flogged out). At the moment I am leaning towards SU's and have obtained a set of Perry extractors to sit under them. My problem is that I have an auto and don't know how I am going to set up the kickdown linkage. I am intending to maintain the linkage accelorator and not change to cable. Any advice pictures or comments would be great.
Thanks,
Mike

I have changed the plan slightly, I am now going twin weber as per the pic below. If anyone has any early Fiat 124 or 125 webers lying around I am still chasing either one 34DCHE or two 28/36 DCD carbies.
I am also considering changing from linkage to cable and then running another cable in place of the kickdown linkage to my Hydramatic. I converted my last EK to cable using a Torana peddle but am looking at whether I can keep my existing peddle and just make up a short cable that takes off from the linkages on the drivers side inside the engine bay, doing away with the linkage that runs behind the engine to the passenger side. Anyone got any comments on this idea?

Burnsey, convert to trimatic behind the grey and you can get rid of all fo the kickdown mechanism and keep the original linkage system from accelerator!

Blocking off one carb is only advisable if you have triples, otherwise you will be running some cylinders rich and the others lean.
As for where I am at, I have now sourced three DCD carbies and have enough to make towo goods ones, I have planned on dumping the hydro for a trimatic that is also sitting in my shed and am bolting all this up to a hot EJ block that is sitting in my shed awaiting machining to fit all the goodies I have collected. The problem at the moment is the waiting part which is dictated my my current project which involves spending huge amounts of money on a new house. So till that happens, my hot grey consists of many boxes of NOS and new parts and some old bits in various locations awaiting funding approval
When it happens I will probably dump my linkages in favour of a cable as I am sick of bits breaking.

burnsy
I know what its like with the money and car thing.
Just spend it mate get the ek running like you want then your happy - the house can wait.
My twin carb set up is happening with the hydra remaining.I hope my mechanic and i dont run into to many probs with the linkages. We'll make it work. Cant wait to fit my exhaust headers too.
Look out

Hi mallia10a,
Having had a Hydramatic, I can honestly say ditch it! hehe
seriously though, I can understand if you are restoring a car for shows or have an immaculant original vehicle, then by all means I salute you for keeping it stock
However if you are modifying the car or using it for a daily driver or nedd a better gearbox than the Hydramatic, switch to Trimatic behind the grey, and as those that have driven my car will testify, it makes it a completely different car!
more than happy to help you out if you need help or information, it is a relatively easy conversion from Hydra to Tri and I swaer you will never look back,
Matt
P.S. if anyone out there want a Hydramatic and all of the linkages neutral safety switch and gear, let me know, if in Melbourne can pick it up for free!

fair advice Matt,
I can appreciate that the tri would dramatically improve the drivability of the ek, and my mechanic suggested the same idea. I would have changed the donk to a chev years ago but i chose to leave it stock(except for kustom wheels, white wall tyres, custom lights, a two pac enamel(original colour) and slightly lowered suspension. I just want to see this twin carb/jack myers headers combination come together with the rejuvinated grey.
If it causes grief I'll consider the tri but honestly it would be the last resort.
Keeping it as a hydra with the sports gear of its time is the nostalgic impression I want this car to have. I've stopped driving it full time after 15 years. Its having a well earned rest and I'm going to dress it up. At the end of the day for me is just to cruise in the hydra with a nice note and one that people can admire.

Thats fair, I can respect the fact you want to keep it as a period hottie so to speak, I do have a reasonable hydramatic and all the other nits and pieces if you want them for spares (getting harder to find) so if you would like them they are yours to collect free! (just PM me)
