Fitting rear tyres 235/60/14
Fitting rear tyres 235/60/14
I dont post on the FC site anymore and I wont post any FC stuff here but since FB-FC are the same in most of the body I was wondering if anuone has fitted a set of tyres 235/60/14 to their car. I have these on a rear set of Tasmans and they are too bloody wide to fit under the rear wheel wells. I was wondering if anyone has fitted tyres this size to their FB-EK and what massaging they may have done to fit them, I also have 3" lowering blocks in the rear which probably dont help but I like it as low as I can get it. Any knowlege much appreciated
G'day Tayz,
The FC site seems to have pretty much ground to a halt for some reason??
Anyway, can't really speak from experience on big rear wheel setup, but, is your problem tyre scrub on wheel well or tyre scrub on guard or both??
If its guard scrub, I've read that some blokes modify and fit LC/LJ Torana diff housings in which brings the track in about 1 1/2 inch or so on each side.
Dunno if that is any help to you.
Did you get my PM re Chassis Kit I sent a while back ??

I can't think what to write here so this will do.
We have 205/65/14 all round and they juuuuust scrape on the back when the boot is chocka and we have people in the back seat.
That is with stock wheel wells - I reckon anything bigger will need massaging

I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

i honestly think that the wheel well varies from car to car, i've had a sedan with 235x50x13's on a 10" rim with only minor scraping, then had 215x60x13's on a 7" rim on a different car and you couldn't have squeazed another bit on
i've got some wheels here i tried on the van not a chance of fitting but easily fit the wagon
My old EK ute ran a 235/50/14 only mod was the gaurd lip was poorly removed (previous owner very rugged). The only time the rubbed was on hard cornering. It was lowered 2" too. Its all in the offset you run on the rim. If you put just the tyre in you can work back from there.
Speed and Style........... One day I'll get the speed bit.

I wont express my views but it used to be a good site, Im far from perfect but there is a few on there............ anyhow thanks for the responses I was originally thinking about fitting a LJ diff housing but they are getting hard to get. Im not worried about scraping too much as with 3" blocks I dont put too many people in it as also it hasnt got seatbelts. Was scatching my head yesterday but half the fun is getting them to fit I spose and them not going on easy. I found that when I put the tyre in there was room on the inner side and it was scraping on the outer hence the LJ diff. I dont want to change tyres as they are brand new and the combo did cost me a fair bit. I guess Id rather it look good and sacrifice the ride......... but its only a toy that doesnt come out a lot, especially now that fuel is worth more than gold. Thanks for the replies, when its done I will put up a pic as ive really only ever run steelies and not mags....... FB Mad, sorry I dont log on I usually come on here as a guest user hence not checking my pm's, I will send you one

fitting 235/
Hey Tayz,
I have 235/40/17's on 8 inch rims on the back of mine and they don't go anywhere near scrubbing. I did move the inner wheel arch back to the rail edge but I could have got away without doing that also.
Mine, I set the wheels up under the guards, did a measurement from inside to inside of wheel and told the diff guys to make my 9inch diff that long.

Well...... after getting the torana diff and a few measurements we decided to chop down the original diff. We cut the axles and lengthened the splines with an angle grinder
and it worked perfect. We then cut 3/4 of an inch from both ends of the diff housing and its back togher none the wiser to be put back in tomorrow lowered 4 "........ will see what happens from there. I now have a complete LJ diff with 3.08 centre for sale if anyones keen (its in Ballarat where its snowing) the torana diff was too short
