Hey everyone

I'm new to this site, I hope this works.
Here's a few 'progress' pics, if you can call this progress, of mey EK re-build. I've been slowly doing this for a couple of years. If anyone has some spare time and $$$ I'd be a more than willing donor

, as I'm sure everyone else on the site would be.

The day I picked her up.

The last guys Chev dreams obviously!

The old 138

Front chasis off

A bit o' rust to fix

Pick-up of donor car

One of the four floor replacements needed, almost in

Just a pic of the other FB where I got the donor EK from
It's amazing how much more eager to get out in the shed I am after going over the old pics.
I've put a topic in the engine section about XB XC fuel tank conversion, any help would be great.
Long weekend here i come!!!!!

Welcome EKSPCL, good to see another nearly local on here! I've got a mate who lives in Langwarrin, you may have seen his cars around, Orange v 8 EK sedan and a green EK wagon that his missus drives?
Try doing a search on xa xb tanks as I vaguely remember some pics being put up. Anyway I'm sure our paths will cross at some stage, enjoy.

I have seen the orange EK around! Very nice. Was thinking of orange for mine when it's finished, have since changed my mind. I think i've settled on a white bottom half with a pale yellow top. Eventually!

G'day EKSPCL,
Welcome to the Forum. Looks like you're jumping in boots n all and doing the the right way as Ray said with the donor car etc. Great to see another rebuild on its way.
Re your welding of the floor pan (and take this with a grain of salt as I'm a newbie too at welding). Check the underside of the pan...is there a small bead of weld that has come through...make sure you are getting enough prenetration rather than the weld building up on top of the floor pan itself. Probably others who can offer you more/better advice on this than me.
regards
Stewart

Welcome to the forum,
Looks like a pretty good body to start with. The rust dosen't seam to be anything out of the ordinary for these old girls.
For someone thats relatively new with the welder it looks like you have a pretty good handle on things. If there's anything your not sure on just ask, there's a wealth of knowledge on this forum.
Keep up the good work and keep the pickies coming.
Again welcome
Mal

Thanks for the welcome's guys!
Oh yes, there will be questions especially on the mechanical side of things.
This is what I eventually want to end up with....
*Red motor (as big as I can get away with without an engineer)was a 138 grey
*Lost on what to do for the gearbox
*HR disc front end
*XC fuel tank with the filler behind the tail light
*Low Low Low
*All custom interior maybe VR or VT buckets and mirrored into the back seats
Have always wanted to do this myself and done the right way.
Picked up a fuel tank at the wreckers today. Now to work out how she fits...
Stripped bare (nice and straight)
Etched, primed and guide coated

There is a couple of us on the forum that have done the XC fuel tank conversion. One thing to be aware of is the tank clearence to the diff center. I used a 9 inch &*#@ diff and I had to cut a recess in the front of the tank to clear the diff. Also I fitted the tank around the other way to original (sender to the back). The tank seems to fit better that way and it give the look of a drop tank.
Good luck

If Vicroads laws are same as N.S.W then the largest red motor you can fit without requiring an engineers certificate is a 149.
N.S.W Roads and Traffic Authority ( RTA ) permits an capacity increase of 15% above the maximum size optional engine for a particular model ( in FB/EK case, a 138 ci ) without an engineer inspection.
138 plus 15% = 157 cubes so a 161 red only just misses out.

Thanx Malcom. I'll keep the diff tip in mind.
I had planned to fit the tank backwards.
If you have any pics handy of the process and finished it would be great to see.
Does doing this effect the how the fuel guage works?
Where did you end up putting the filler?
How do you go at the RTA when its roadworthy time?
I'm full of Q's aren't I? Muchly appreciated

Best if you ask Vicroads about what they will permit engine size wise and for roadworthy but here in N.S.W for a 149 in an FB/EK all we have to do is go to a "blue slip" station for a roadworthy/engine size check and he also inspects the engine and new red motor engine mounts/welds to basically make sure the engine wont fall out, and then off to the RTA and pay the rego and off you go.
A lot more hassle and expence for anything above 149 because of engineer requirements.

Thanks FB MAD.
I'd doubt the difference betwen the states would be much. I'll check it out though.
The only reason is Im thinking about a motor upgrade is the cost of rebuilding the grey, whether it's worth upgrading for the cost
