I have a new black carpet floor, but I use rubber/plastic foot mats. The mats just keep the carpet clean from dirty shoes etc.

I used to have an EK many years ago with only a rubber floor mat that became quite hot on extended trips. Barefoot driving was uncomfortable. Seeing as though I wear pluggers everywhere (size 15-16 shoes are hard to come by) I found it annoying.

If you're going to the beach and getting in with sandy feet etc then a whole rubber floor mat would probably be more cleaning friendly. Good for spilling icecream/beer etc.

Just my view.
