Sound / Heat insulation

Has anyone got any advice on which direction to take in regards to sound / heat insulation for the floor ? I plan on running carpet over the top and hope to avoid anything too bulky.

I've seen "Dyna-mat" used on various TV shows but have no experience with it.

Last car i did i used industrial carpet under-lay with mixed results, great sound suppression but so bulky it was in-practial.

I used a "general" car carpet underlay and a lino-type material with a textured finish, I got both of these from Exact-Fit in Newton SA. The underlay would be about 20mm thick and the lino gear about 3mm.
For the next project I think I will go for some DynaMat as these old girls need all the help they can get.
PM Ed on the FE/FC Forum or search his build threads as he used a heap of the stuff on his FE Wagon.

Hi Strogger,
I'm pretty well convicted to leaving the floor with only a paint finish - had some very anxious moments with deadener and adhesive sound material....

I now use a Clark Rubber material called "moonwalk" it is a perfect medium to fit between a high gloss floor and carpet - it grips to hard slippery surfaces tenaciously yet still grips carpet....... I find it quite good as far as sound absorption is concerned - but I'm nearly deaf..........

The product is quite expensive - $44 per lineal metre @ 1300 mm wide...

It is not too bulky - certainly not to the extent that the original fibre mat is....

I have fitted 3 layers to my floor/boot/underside rear seat and "waffered" some absorbent cloth to catch any grain/dust which may "filter" through the carpet - in the view of preventing abrasion to the paint........

One layer of "moonwalk" is around 1/4"..........easily removed for inspection.
It will compress quite readily yet return to its original state within seconds....
This pic shows the moonwalk (blue) and also a much thinner similar product - I used Loctite 424 to "weld" the two different thicknesses together.

There may be better options, this has been my most satisfactory attempt thus far..................

Hey Anthony, I just used two moulded carpets. One I had from another project and then I bought another in the colour I wanted and layed it straight over the top. It works for me.
