top of dash colour

hey guys,

just a couple of quick questions, i'm about to paint my car tuscany yellow. (same colour as EK61...

1. will the tuscany yellow reflect the sun badly if i paint the top of the dash in tuscany yellow

2. if you every repainted the car in the same colour would you repaint the dash in the same colour or would you paint it black...

the painter said t paint the top of the dash black so the glare/reflection on the windscreen isn't as bad...

BUT... i do like it all the one colour, but is it practical as daily driver...

Matty, Try driving your daily at the moment with a newspaper on the dash in the middle of the day into the sun. You'll see the reflection Joe's been talking about. I repainted my dash with Strata Grey (it's almost black with a slight fleck through it) and I'm glad it's not glossy. I think Devilrod has a light coloured dash or painted not in black, See how he copes with sun reflection!

Our dash is white and you get a bit of reflection off it, but I like the look of it so its staying white.

MATTY are you running a sun visor? mine doesn't reflect with a visor and its the same colour as my bodywork I think you should also ask the painter to do the steering column

I haven't even retrimmed the sun visors, so I don't even have them in!!

Glare isn't as bad as I thought it would be quite minimal infact, but the dash is red...

I think you'll find the factory colour is actually a dark semi gloss grey. I'm sure some one here will confirm or deny whether I'm right. FC's had a similar colour.

Devilrod as far as I know the dash & steering colum was Dartford Grey - which is almost black

you will get glare but it's nothing you can't live with
get him to try flattening the paint a little for the dash may help a little

yest modified vehicles do look great with a "like colour" inside............
I probably would go with grey/black - I'm a bit older than you chaps and my eyes like to get as much "help" as they can - particularly looking into bright sunlight...............

The colour - hmmm.......... I still haven't found it shown in any documentation.
I purchased some from my supplier who told me with every confidence that it was "clinker grey" even had the code number for it - wrong - that's the dash colour for EH - those three litres are now my engine bay - you'll see....Yamba.

Mine is still in original condition - very well kept and it sort of is a matt/satin the colour is almost black but with a slight grey hue.............. I may have it colour matched when I do it......

One thing you may consider Matty, is the "rake" of our windscreens - they are much less angled than late model vehicles - in my opinion, this would probably mean less direct light from overhead - but of course yours will be yellow - I like the idea of flattening that - but will it create a different "hue" thus defeating the "same" theme..................

Matty, my Wagoon I did in gloss Magenta ...WRONG!! even with a sun visor I got reflection..so i put it back to low sheen grey ( mixed my own).
However an idea that I'd give a go would be to paint it the same colour as the trim with a matting agent added. I think that'd look Kool!!

Hi Matty,

If you wanted to check out a 'local' car...Frank Petracic in the NSW Club has his dash the same colour as his EK sedan...blue not sure which blue though...

Frank would be only too happy to show his recently finished project to you...it took out 3rd or 4th place in EK original at Forbes...

Matty both my sedan and van have a matt black top. Doesnt look the best but does the job. Have been considering a white matt for the van ... that said black absorbs sunlight whilst white reflects.

Anyone done a white matt by chance ?

Matty, I have my dash painted silver and have'nt even given glare a thought, just think how cool you look in your car with a good set of sunnies on , Trev .

scotty, i like that idea but i still am undecided on colour of trim in the car... & as others would tell you from the forum, choosing colours isn't one of my strong points...

austmod, i will be running an external sunvisor so hopefully that'll help a bit to or maybe i can extend it a couple of feet forward...hahaha

noted.......... where did you find the colour.......... I forgot to ask my supplier...just accepted they "had" it listed for 1959 -1962

Mine is definitely much lighter than my dash - maybe if it wre "flat, satin or matt - it would be closer....................

When I do respray, I would like it in the same sheen and hue.............
