Hi All,
Was talking to a guy this afternoon about a red motor in the FB. He said if your car has never been registered with a red motor, you can't put one in it unless the red motor is fuel injected. The car needs to meet 1996 standards????
These are apparently the rules for Vic reg. Does anyone else out there know if this is the case or not???
Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Paul
Red motor in a FB

news to me paul, all I knew was that it needed engineer's certificate for larger motor.
I am also of the opinion you may need to fit a chassis kit - or strengthen the under frame to the engineer who certifies you vehicle's requirements........
It may have changed since my last update but - phone Vic Roads and get it from the horse........
Think there may some very "strange" reasons for stating this to you......?
frats,

What!?!??!!!???
I don't think so..... it all comes down to what the engineer requires and as we all know they vary from each other as its their interpretation of the rules. Sounds like they've been really poorly advised or misheard something.

Reckon there must have been some crossed wires going on there, given that Greg put the 186 and 1/4 chassis kit into my car, and has been dealing with red motor conversions for about 20 years!
And don't forget - a lot of interactions are about personality clashes... and you can only go on your own experiences.
Get info from members on this forum, and from Holbusters, Holwreck and the guys at Dinkum Auto, and the truth is bound to be somewhere amongst it!
Fuel injection though? Are you sure Greg wasn't having a lend of you and pulling your leg? 'Cos that's WAY off anything I've ever heard...
That IS, of course, unless VicRoads has suddenly changed the rules - give them a call and let us all know if it's changed!

red in grey car.
In the a.c.t. they allow red motors of any size up to and including 202 to be fitted to early holdens as long as you use a hr front end Disk/pad because the grey motor went out of production the red motor became the replacement motor. Once you go above the 3300cc engine size the you are required to run disks front twospeed wipers and demister heater and seatbelts. Any work done to the frame or tunnell must be inspected by an engineer. If you use a hr front end with standard three speed box then there is no cutting and no need for engineer.
