Rear seat belts for wagons

Just been installing seat belt mounting points in the Fb wagon, just wondering if anyone has put inertia real belts in the rear?
If so where did you mount them, on the pillar or behind the seat some where?
Any pic's would be good, Trev

Trev i found the only easy way for inertia belts in the wagon was on a bar behind seat. (there is a picture from the rear in 'one more wagon' pics) There is not a lot of options because of the angle that they work. I did have a look at mounting commodore wagon units, but it would take a bit of cut and paste, which may be worth the trouble if you don't want a bar.
Because of the way the pillars curve forward from the seat tops, its hard to get the right angles for piller mounts. Hopefully someone has a better answer.

Can your rear seat belts be lap belts only, or
do they have to be lap/sash?
If lap/sash, do you really need roll up, or
can you use hook up belts?

Hi Jeff, I definatly want the safest option, my kids will be regular passengers.
So I will be using three point belts, I just think inertia's would be allot neater if they can be installed properly, Trev

Couldnt ya mount the units above the wheel arches in the back, then run them up to a point on the C pillar ??
Sort of how they are run in a VB/H Commondore

I know your problem trev as i really did not want the bar either, but inertia was the only option (i feel) for daily kid transport. The new belts i have used have to mounted within 5 degrees of the horizontal (ie top of seat), ruling out mounting lower on the arch etc. The second hands one i tried from a vl commo mount in the rear side compartment (above wheel arch where the side trim is) and would look neat and factory if you could get them to work. You still need to get the angles right for the inertia part to work properly, which i found a bit hard with the seat latch and c pillar angles.Unsure of the VB/H units, but you could also mount a couple of four point harnesses. Would be REAL safe, and stop them drawing

on the back of the seats

Blacky, exactly what I was thinking but wanted to see if someone had done it before so I could have a look at what it looks like.

Guys,

rear belts are pretty easy to do (on an FE anyway), but should be similar.

I mounted my reels on top of the wheel arch. (like an XD falcon).
I used XD falcon wagon reels and belts.

the top mount is done by cutting out a slot in the rear of the pillar,
sliding in a 10mm plate with a 7/16" UNF thread cut in it.

stitch welding the plate in to the pillar. done, mine passed engineering like this.

in this pic you can see where the reel sits.

if you look carefully in this pic you can see wherre the plate is stitched into the pillar.

the belt runs in the narrow gap between seat and body.

Nice work ED on a side note how successfull is the Dynamat at stoping heat and sound i'm replacing floor coverings soon and was thinking about doing the firewall
