how to remove interior door handles

how is this done? I know that you need a special flat tool with a section cutout from the top, and i have made one of these however I find removing the door handles to be impossible. Can proper door handle removal tools be bought from supercheap/repco? with these proper tools is the task any easier?

Hi Andrew
save your self some drama and go to
super cheap auto and get one of these
about $10
there is a clip on the back of the handle
when you slide the tool in between the
door trim and the door handle it release's
the clip and the handle comes off

Hi Andrew,
the others have done the deed for you - this little tool will live in your tool-box.
I am going to jump ahead a little and answer your next question -
to get them back on...................

Push the clip fully home over the handle - make sure the opening is facing in the direction of the handle - that way you will know from which direction the removal tool must be fitted, place spring over the spindle into recess in lock/winder assembly, fit the steel spring/lining washer with the recess facing outwards then finally position the handle in the desired location/angle and bump it back on - the retaining spring will "snap" into the spindle recess and job done.

You didn't mention why you wanted the handles off................?

You can purchase new door handles from Rare's - I don't know about the window winders - I haven't done those yet.

I wanted them off to fit my newly acquired power windows to the front of my FB. The passengers motor is in but iam having a great deal of difficulty getting the drivers side unit into position

Sorry Andrew,
do not have any experience or knowledge of the fitting of these.
Would like to fit central locking system to alarm unit - retirement project.
guess we're just going to have to use "armstrong" window motors............?
