the difference is verry little.
if you use wheels with standard nuts there's no problems but if you use the old style of mag nut you'll bend the studs
the threads are also different

Holden Commodore is 120mm pcd and HQ to WB is 4.75 inches in the old scale. Or 120.65 mm.
The centre hole on the Commodore rim is smaller than the HQ series.

The HQ rims shouldn't be fitted to Commodore stud pattern, the taper on the seating face of the rim and nut taper will no be seated correctly, and you can have vibration problems, rim cracking and fatigue on the wheel studs> I mean it is only common sense.

I have a commodore diff in the EK, it has been narrowed and the bolt pattern changed to HQ . Because there is only .65mm difference in the PCD, I offset drilled the stud holes to HQ pattern and fitted oversize wheel studs from Coventrys .
This gives you HQ stud pattern without having to weld and redrill the axles and only costs about 15 bucks for a set of wheel studs.
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Hi munro.

You will still bend the studs with 'standard' wheel studs. As you tighten the nuts into the tapered hole, the stud will then bend outwards. I've lost count of the number of broken wheel studs I've replaced because of this problem. With the barrel type mag wheel nuts, you often can't even screw them into the holes, without forcing them, depending on how loose they are in their hole.

The other difference between HQ & Commodore style rims that's often forgotten is their different offset. The Commodore rims will reduce your wheel track dimension considerably & sometimes they will foul suspension arms or rub brake hoses.
