Whats the trick to stop the rubber from squeezing out the gaps when you close boot / doors :?: :?:

I fitted a kit to my EK sedan and what a XXXX of a job.

(Took 24 XXXX's to do each door just control to frustration.)

Now i cant get the doors closed without slamming and the car leaks like a seive. Have tried adjusting doors and striker but cant get the right balance of frim / crisp door closing and rubber contact.

I cant work it out, doors so tight into rubber i have to slam closed and look at the flammin rubber squeezing out the joins and it still leaks.

Anyone got any wisdom they can share with me? Was i supposed to trim the profile prior to installing?
(BTW kit had no instructions so i went from pic's in shop manual, So fault most likely lies with me.)

Hi Strogger
thats repro rubbers for you they never fit
not your fault . i got my rubber kit from
rares a long time ago and it leaked all the
time ive ended up replacing the door rubbers
with clarky's off the shelf rubbers and they seem to fit better
and dont leak

Theres a mob over here called Rare Parts phone no 08 9470 1117 who make their own door rubbers and they fit like factory ones.
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Boot rubber correct fit

Post by Malcolm »

Hey Blacky,

I took your advice and got onto Rare Parts. my rubbers turned up friday. I do like how they cut and change the profile of the rubbers in different areas. They even look like they might fit ok. :)
Do Rare Spares do the same with their rubbers or are they all the same profile all the way around.

Not real sure Malcolm, I was talking to the boys at Rare parts the other day and he told me the supplier Rare Spares got the rubber from changed the profile which , combined with the fact that the repro rubber has a higher density than the original , made their seals go from being "a bit tight" to "how the hell am I going to get this door shut" :?
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

rubbers

Post by rosco »

Hi all,
I have purchased all my rubbers from Rare's - the boot-lid and rear windscreen rubbers fitted perfectly.

I have done the l/hs doors and suffered what I was told is "the normal".
They were done in 2004 and are now settling in "nicely" only takes a "firm" close. Some days - if the doors haven't been left open, they close lovely.
On others, still a good biff to get them shut.
On the matter or sealing - have not had one issue.
I fitted them without stretching or bunching - just laid them in as they wanted to go.
My side windows and vents were also very good..........

Had heaps of leaks and difficult door closing with rare spares rubber also. The fix was to spray them with "Rubber Magic" and leave the doors closed for a few days. Worked fantastic!

Now my doors only need a firmer push to close when windows are up.
