Wanted: FB/EK Holden steering column

Post by Harv »

My cunning plan to get a collapsible column made up was coming together nicely. Alien Retro can do the work, and the HJ donor-column arrived yesterday. Then it all turned to custard.

Went looking for the spare FB/EK columns to send one off to the Alien. There should be two spare ones (one from my wagon, and one from a sedan I wrecked). One column is missing in action. Suspect I may have given it away a few years ago when I put the LH column into the wagon.

Found the other spare column though. Then remembered why it was stuck under the house. The pitman arm is seized on in a big way... hard enough that the 8-tonne press cant remove it  . The box is very, very, very sloppy. Not a good option for sending to the Alien.

Anyone got a spare FB/EK steering column (box, column, preferably honeypot) that they would part with please? The box needs to be in relatively good shape if possible. Happy to pay for both parts and postage.

Cheers,
Harv

Harv,

Humpy: yes. FE-FC: yes. EJ-HR: yes. FB-EK: I'll have to take a look.

Harv,

Sorry - I'm fresh out of FB/EK steering columns. Have been for >30 years, I realise.
But I know where to find a couple in the Central West.

Mr Black, may I have a column from EKMart please? Don't need the steering wheel or pitman arm, but pretty much need everything else in between. Don't need the shift mechanism (Alien can't make a collapsible column shift) but no big drama as I will run an Impala inline floor shifter on the crashie.

Cheers,

Most certainly my good man , do you want to find out from Mr Alien where he cuts them - I can cut just above so it will be cheaper to ship ???

Drew,

Standards didn't come with indicators as standard, if you follow. They were either dealer-fitted, or fitted by their owners. Yours would be one of the very few that hasn't had indicators fitted (country car?). If you resist the temptation to fit them, you'll win on the originality front, but people just don't get hand signals any more . . .

And you won't need indicators to get the car registered, either.

Thanks Blacky.

No, all good to ship me the full unit. The price difference in freight won't be too hairy. I'll then parcel the two columns (EK and HJ) up and send them to the Alien as one batch. No arguments then about "I didn't get what I need". The to-and-fro on my repro Repco head has made me really wary about getting people to build stuff for me long-distance.

I'll flick you a PM with my address - please let me know what I owe you for parts and freight.

Hi Rob,
Yep, I will definitely need indicators - they are one of the mandatory requirements for engineering (along with demister, two speed wipers etc). The FB is a Special, and has indicators. I'll need to keep them.

Cheers, and thanks again,

Harv,

I went off-topic and led you astray. It's Drew who doesn't need indicators in his FB/219.

I may not legally need indicators that is true, but it’s 202 and I can’t be bothered explaining myself to a young xopper eachtime they think my indicators don’t work.

. . . but of course the same cops never pull over late-model Pajeros asking why their tail/stop/indicator lights don't appear to work . . .

I got tired of hand signals a few years back and fitted indicators to my Humpy. And my FC Standard had indicators retro-fitted when I bought it.
