Wanted : Tailshaft slip yoke (gearbox end) to suit hydramatic

Post by DanFranko »

Hi guys

By chance does anyone have a spare hydramatic tailshaft slip yoke (the one at the gearbox end) to suit an EJ that they are willing to sell?

I know they are the same EK/EJ. EH has a different part number. I have put up the parts manual for reference - can anyone decipher what the ground surface measurement difference is?

It has to be a hydramatic yoke specifically.

Mine cracked and was fixed years ago - kept leaking. Tried to sort it again last year but was only a stop gap to needing a replacement.

If anyone has one that they are willing to sell please let me know. I am in Perth but happy to pay postage.

Thank you

Dan

Hi Greg,

Apologies, yes I mean the slip yoke - gearbox end. I didn’t even think to clarify. I’ll update the original topic.

Regards

Dan

Dan,

There appears to be 2 thickness sizes, assuming different housing bearing and seal.

I will measure the yolk tomorrow hopefully its the same as the EJ.

Ahh that makes sense. Thanks - I forgot to mention in PM that I posted the parts manual data.

Appreciate the help

OK more study,

The measurements in the book are of the ground length section of the yolk not the thickness.

Mine is the longer one marked as EK but I am not sure if that will make any difference or not ??

Any hydramatic gurus on board ?????

How did you go Dan, did Greg's tailshaft fix the problem?

Which one was it? 3 3/4" length or 3 1/2 length?

I completely forgot to update this post.

My gearbox guru here in Perth was pretty adamant that they all fit between EK—EH. The yoke that Greg sent was the correct size, but as we suspected, it was flogged out at the uni joint when it seized up. So it was unusable, but remains a good spare to use to
Identify another if needed.

The problem was actually the rear extension seal. From what he explained when you order a modern replacement they are a metric diameter - it fits but leaks as it’s ever so slightly too large. He had to source and imperial one and that solved the problem. He got me a spare so I know what one is in the car should I or someone else need one.

Cheers Dan
