ANOTHER WIPER QUESTION

Was in the shed dreaming bout the car getting excited i can start the job soon (one customers car to do first) when i thought ill check the wiper switch now the video i posted i was talking but the microphone on my phone don't seem to be working so ill just have to give you a run down basically the wiper switch has three distinct positions off on and another on but the wipers don't seem to change speed nor does the motor seem to go faster is this standard or has someone added a 2 speed switch already I'm confused on why it has these positions if the wipers don't change any help would be great i can also get pics of the wiper motor tomorrow for you guys if needed

FB Holdens and earlier EK Holdens (pre-April 1962) used a two-speed windscreen wiper switch (part number 1998657). Later EK Holdens used a single speed switch (part number 1993563). The electric wiper motor in both cases is only single speed... the second "click" on the earlier switches does nothing.

ok so does that mean i can use that switch to make a two speed motor work?

or resistance load the original motor to get two speeds?

The switch can be used to switch almost anything, including wipers. The original GMH wiper motor is only single speed, but could be turned into a two-speed unit by resistance loading. The issue is that many engineering authorities use the NCOP requirements for wiper speed - at least 45 cycles per minute fast speed, and at least 20 cycles per minute slow speed. The old GMH wiper motors tend to struggle to meet this. You can get smart (eg WD40 the windscreen ready for the engineers demonstration, new wiper blades etc) but it doesn't always work.

Most people tend towards fitting a later model motor (eg Telstar or Commodore) to the original wiper linkages. Ken Mclean (mc1959 from the FE/FC forum) does a beautiful bolt-in two speed wiper conversion - I've got one in my EK wagon, and would recommend his work.

I used the third switch position to make my wipers have an intermittent operation.
