Seems I have a few issues with my lifters. Obviously not available anymore but seems the previous owner had an issue with a stuck valve so one has a damage skirt and a couple others crude resurfacing at least the cam is not marked.
Are grey motors lifter faces flat or are they meant to have a slight radius?
I am concerned that if they are resurfaced flat will they still spin during operation? Or is the cam machined to spin them. Is there anyone in Sydney area resurfacing them and does any know of any good second hand that may be available to have resurfaced if thats posable

You would think pretty much any engine reconditioning shop could sort that out - one of the Sydney blokes will no doubt chime in and let you know where to take them , and be able to sort out some spare ones if required.
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Thanks Blacky
Seems they did have a radius originally (would love to know one way or the other) not sure anyone still has the gear to do it here as there wouldn't be much call for it I guess. There were places I found in the states on line today that can still do it (grind radius on lifters faces). Seems &*#@ and Chev in the early days were keen on it. Not sure there even are steel almost look like iron but what do I know!

I don't have a second hand set to spare, but if you can find some, these guys can machine them:

Re: Grey solid lifters woes
Its standard build design practice for all engines of this type/era to have radius ground lifter bases. Also the cam lobe must have a tapered profile. Combined these allow for good base contact loading as well as making the lifter spin. This is also done to flat tappet hydraulic lifters.
Any good camshaft machine shop should have the capability to grind camshafts and lifters this way (lifters are refaced if they still have sufficient base hardness depth).

Thanks Hav for the contact, will have a chat to them and continue the hunt. Thanks Craig thought that was the case most are OK just the 1 needs replacing the other two needing attention may be able to be resurfaced but I doubt it so it could be 3 required, will let the experts make the call. Need to get away on this trip but don't want to do any further damage as it will be a lot of highway miles
