Well what started as picking up a free grey motor, turned into this...

Picked it up on Friday, and it rained the whole way home. Luckily it still has all the glass fitted!

Plans are to strip it right down, and respray it in its original colour, which I think is parisian lilac and a white roof.
I plan on fitting an auto tunnel, and using the original trim.
Will stick with the grey motor, and just make it a nice cruiser.

I have a couple of bits of rust repair to do, but so far I can't see anything to major. Time will tell.

Plans:
Paint /panel - respray original colours, spats, remove some trims and badges
Engine / gbox / diff - fix oil leaks, nice cam, twins or triples. Trimatic (probably manualise it) lokar shifter, standard diff
Suspension - Replace rubbers, new shocks, lower front and back
Interior - Repair original trim, track down standard door trims, carpet, oil and water gauges. Venetians for rear side windows.
Wheels / tyres - standard rims, white walls, baby moons.

Looks neat enough, full bare meal re-spray or just a sand back and top coat?

Seeing as your putting an auto tunnel in, the trimatic behind a grey is a great thing .

Hi trev,

Plans are for a full bare metal respray in 2pak. Will be stripping it by hand, the old fashion way! No major work will start on it for a couple of months yet as I have to keep it mobile.

Yep, will be tracking down a trimatic to bolt up behind the grey. I will probably re-do the two front floor pans, they have been replaced previously but from under neath look abit average.

Has anybody used HICHEM 2 pak before?

What were your thoughts?

I'm going to strip it back to metal, 2k epoxy prime. Do any repairs, re coat those areas with epoxy, then throw down some highfill. Get that smooth and then into colours.

Local paint shop sells DUPONT, but the guy there wanted me to bare metal, 1k etch, then highfill. This way seems like it will be a lot more work, re-stripping areas for repair, re etching, re highfill. Plus will use more materials. And I'm not sure how long a panel will last just in etch where I live either, before surface rust appears....

I can get hichem locally aswell. Otherwise it's a drive to Perth for some protec or maybe some debeer? Unless somebody knows a good online site to order from?....

Well I know I said not much will happen for abit, but I couldn't help myself...started pulling off some panels.
Got some KBS paint stripper, and decided in going to make the drive to Perth for some protect paint. Looking at epotec epoxy 408.



Little bit of rust repair to be made there, tailgate looks solid though...not sure how I'm going to tackle this one yet.

Started stripping her down. Used KBS paint stripper, followed by some protec epotec 408 epoxy primer. Found some spots to repair, never done a rust repair that scarey, so will probably leave that one to last.

Sure will be abit mate, but I'm glad I've got the biggest area done and out of the way. Hopefully it just falls off all the rest!

This KBS paint stopper seems to be pretty good stuff, you can spray it on (I just used a paint brush, but might try this on the sides) and is pretty easy to clean up. It still burns when you get it on your skin, and it was melting the gloves I was wearing...maybe the KBS brand gloves they sell might stand upto it abit better!

The paint stripper I used is KBS.
The primer I used is a PROTEC product.

Was planning on using KBS on the floors and underside though. But first off ill focus on stripping the body back to metal and epoxy primering

Did abit more bagging and tagging over the break. Pretty much ready to get all the paint stripped back. Then I will make a frame and pull the front end off and prep the firewall.
