I see red... just don't know if it's Salamanca

Post by Harv »

Getting geared up for the wagon to go to the House of Dave for body, paint and panel. I've got my heart set on it being red (Dave talked me out of black  ), and thought that I knew what I wanted... Salamanca red, a Torrie colour. Nice bright fire-engine red, and not too dark.

Then I go googling some more, and find this:
http://www.holdentorana.com/paint/13138/

The photo at the bottom of the SL/R is the kind of red I'm after. The washed-out orangey colour of the early Torrie at the top is not. Question is, which one (if any) is Salamanca?

As an aside, anyone got some photos of the original FB/EK reds? I could be convinced to go an original red if it was like that SL/R. I tried forum searching, but sadly a lot of Aussie Bobs photies have evaporated.

Cheers,
Harv

Harv you probably know this but I'd be careful about relying on photo's to give an accurate description on colours.

Even when you decide on a final colour, I'd take a swatch to whoever's going to mix the paint , rather than relying on a paint formula.

Harv, try Firethorn Red. It was a VB Commodore colour and is a little less orangy. Both of those torries are Salamanca.

I downloaded almost all of the forum pics (around 10,000) earlier this year in case we lost any when the forum software was upgraded, or in case people started not to pay photo-bucket fees etc. Here's a link to my Google-drive account where they are all stored. It will include Jacko's pics.

https://drive.google.com/folderview?id= ... sp=sharing

I also have copies of videos that people posted links to on the forum (apart from one of someone popping a huge zit - I think that was Mick J posted that one. Not sure if it was his zit though).

I can send an electronic copy to you in the mail also if you'd like.

Thanks guys - appreciated.

Craig - I'm liking the look of Apache Red. I lurv that original FB/EK red trim colour, and am planning on the red and silver stuff for the wagon. Can you do me a favour (pretty please :D ) and take a photo of a packet of Redhead matches up against the car? This makes the colour variations on a computer screen easier to "neautralise" out in my head.

Cheers,
Harv (I see red I see red I see red).

Here ya go Harv. Sorry for the late reply have been tied up doing stuff as usual.
I tried heaps of different lighting to do this but all the shots look a lot more orange than red. See what you think. I hopefully will have the car going tomorrow so I'll be able to try some outside shots under normal light.

Harv you wanting a bright red a dirty red or a burgundy red?
I painted a 2000 corolla today. The red on that is really nice if you are looking for a bright red.

Bright red, like the Toranas.

I feel like a dumb-arse, and should know better than picking colours off the internet. Just scares me when I saw that orange-looking Salamanca red torrie, and even Craig's photos look orangish.

Harv
