Buying this car - What to look for???

Post by oLdRedEK »

I saw this on Gumtree and have put a deposit on and pick up on Wednesday.

They have stated faults honestly and need any advice what to look for ie how bad the rust is in the Y frame.

I am mechanically knowledgeable to a point but my first EK or any old Holden

This car is fairly originally mechanically just has a modernised appearance

Running gear is all original and not tampered with. Has had Dyno tune and leaks/gaskets done

Radiator is being re-cored before collection also

Appreciate any help/advice

:D

Sorry couldn't find the ad description it has come offline

It was leaking radiator and rust in the Y frame

Drives extremely well ex wedding car

Painted and retrimmed professionally 4 years ago (still looking good nothing coming through)

New windscreen and exhaust

registered until 11/13

3 speed Automatic

New tyres and white walls mats

Getting this for $6500

I have seen what's around for the dollars in various cities and other than changing the original paint look/rims and perhaps trim it has saved me $8000 in resto work me thinks

Unless the thing is riddled with rust, not a bad buy for 6500 bucks.

As for what to look for, check this thread out

The running gear cant be too original if it has commodore wheels on it ????
What motor and gearbox is in it ? I am guessing a red and a trimatic ? HR disc front with (I hope) Commodore brakes ?

If it has a well fitted and sorted red I wouldn't have any qualms in driving it home
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

By running gear I meant the engine and gearbox. It has comodore rims yes but I don't know what you need to fit them.

It has grey motor and hydramatic trans that came with the car orignally

Seeing it has Commodore rims already, its either had discs fitted to the front and a commondore diff out back, or its had all the axles/hubs redrilled.

I'd ask for pics of the rust in the subframe, easy enough to repair but not something I'd drive across Oz with.

White wall mats! That's a new one...

Says original drums so I'm guessing they've been redrilled.
