I am lookin at bunging a red motor in my EK ute with a 5 speed celica.
Can someone tell me the exact distance from the back edge of the cross member to the back edge of the engine mounts????. i have recently fitted a HR disk brake front end in the ute that i got out of an EH sedan.
it bolted straight up and has the red motor mounts welded about 30 or 40mm to the back edge of the mounts to the back edge of the cross member .
I have never taken much notice of the mount positions when i have looked at red motored Fbs and EKs but from what i can remember the rocker cover runs pretty close ( about 12mm) off the firewall.
dont wanna slot the motor and box in on the mounts in thier existing position , then bolt everything back in and find that the fan is carving a circle in the radiator

Done it years ago with a 161 in an FC but like you I can't remember where they are supposed to go.
I had a look in old posts and found that IPG has a picture of a HR front with repositioned red motor mounts in "My FB EK" section under "EK 2106" on 6/9/06. Go to 2nd photo. It shows the mounts welded to the rear of the crossmember and approx 1/2 inch or so forward from the rear leading edge of the crossmember.
Also have a look on "Sharing advice and experiance" section under "202 conversion" on 9/6/04 as there are some comments there as well.
Sorry but I don't know how to do them link thingys unless someone else can do it.
From memory the rocker cover does run close to the firewall and throttle arm (about 1/2 inch like you said) but is enough clearance.
I know its not much info but its a starting point, hope it helps,
Hi all
Can someone please verify the correct distance off the back of the crossmember to the back of the eng mount... or is aprox 1/2" good enough??
Gotta be someone out there with a red motor conversion that owns a tape measure and is not afraid to use it..???

Hi Reddo. I have a new CRS crossmember at my workshop. I will measure it up tomorrow and let you know tomorrow night if thats OK. If you need the measurements earlier, call me tomorrow on 02 43248066 and I'll measure it while you wait.
Kind regards, Steve
i've usually found my engine mounts to be right on the back edge, but i use a cable accelorator.
i have used a standard EH king pin front and i had to space the engine mounts back about 10 mill.
not very technical hope it helps
Yo
Thanks for the update.
i am running a cable throttle on the grey motor twin carbs at the moment so the accelerator rod is not an issue. Just need to make sure the mounts are in the right place first go and the fan will clear the radiator cores by a safe distance.
Dont wanna havta slot the motor in an out stuffing around trying to get the mounts tact in the right place. Easier to ask here and get the good oil on the mounts than end up pelting tools and shit all over the shed and having a dum spit over stuffing things up.
Thanks to everyone who has replied. looks like the mounts need to be flush with the back edge of the cross member. will check my PMs after i send this post.
Cheers all
