Mt Gambier Nats Auction - Opinions sought

Post by Thommo »

Do we have enough support for, and avaliable parts for, an auction at the Mt Gambier Nationals.
We have been tossing up ideas about how, or what we do.

- Do you want an auction at the sat night dinner?
- Should we just have a trade table at the sat night dinner?
- Should we have a trade table at the sunday show?
- Do we have a boot sale out of the back of your cars on sunday?

An auction will have reserve prices + bidding
Trade stands / boot sale will be set asking prices

The auction is to be for New Old Stock, Rare or Parts in Very Good Condition only.
The auction is not to help you clear your shed out of old shitty looking parts

Please give us your feedback as to how you would like it to work, or do we drop it altogether?

Regards, Jeff

I had thought that with all the time we have at the show on Sunday there should be some sort of auction at a set time during the day, might pass an hour or so  .

The auction create a bit of atmosphere and gives members a chance to recoup some of their costs for the weekend

I like the auction, Thommo

Yep, I have some surplus bits-n-pieces in good very good nick like a taxi rail and day/night mirror etc. I'd like to have the chance to off-load these and get some other goodies that I need

Hi Jeff

Some of my thoughts...

I like the auction. Limit it it to NOS, near new quality etc or very rare stuff. An auction on the Saturday night can 'break up' the evening unless you have other things planned.

I've always found it hard to check out all the cars at the show n shine whilst talking to people, taking pics, lunch, talking to more people, filling out voting form etc so adding an auction may further limit 'car' time. An auction out in the open may have issues with noise, peoples ability to hear/see...

NOS stuff is fine for you restorers but what about the people that would be happy with a dirty old second hand part that we need  , maybe the modifiers can just have a car boot sale at the show for the browsers  .

trevs idea sounds ok more like a kinda mini swap meet if room allows with the parts put kinda to the rear of the car that way stewarts happy as he can check out the parts have a chat look at the car and if it's an enterprising person they can sell him some food and drinks aswell

I like Trevs idea as well. Sometimes an auction can drag on and "KILL" an evening.
We all only get together one time a year and theres "SO" much to catch up on, sitting there keeping quiet while an auction is going can be quiet frustrating, especially with a few ales under the belt or if you're at a noisy table.......
Just my 2 cents.......

My suggestion re the NOS stems from one Nationals where there was sooo much stuff the auctions ran way too long...basically it killed the night.

I think your suggestion Trev and as Mick puts it a 'mini swap' meet is a good one. I have seen a few guys do this off their own bat in a limited way...

ps I love dirty old second hand parts too... :)

Who doesn't!

I think Trev's idea is a good one, a mini swap meet. Let's face it not everyone will have room to drag a heap of stuff along with them anyway. So I can't see it being too big. May give the show and shine even more added value. Plus save some from drunken purchases if it's not during the evenings

Although I will add it is entirely upto the SA boys as to what happens and I'm not to phased either way.
