Yo...
just been fiddling with the celica box ( alloy split case) . almost reday to fit back to the bellhousing.

Quick quizz.
The main input shaft bearing has a large thrust washer that pushes on the outer ring of the input shaft bearing when the box is tightened to the housing ( dellow).
When I seperated the box from the housing the bottom bearing had a flat washer.. ??
It is undersized and doesnt fit tightly into the bellhousing recess. Nor does it fit neatly agains the bearing. The inner diameter of the washer is bigger than the inner race of the bearing.
Just wandering do i need a thrust washer on this bearing at all??
It has a circlip on the outer edge of the bearing but it appears to be there only to stop the bearing heading inwards not outwards. It is an outer circlip that fits in a recess around the outer surface of the bearing
So.. appears to be nothing to stop the bearing floating out towards the bellbousing .

Spose the bottom line is.. do i need a thrust washer here or not??

Mines a steel 5-speed. No thrust washer.
Just bolted up to bel housing adapter (Dellows) and then the thrust bearing/carrier slid onto the shaft. Did have a 0.5mm sleeve on it that i had to remove to get the 35mm thrust carrier on....

since posting this question i have visited a gearbox and diff recond shop here in Newcastle. They assure me the washer i have for the bearing at the front /bottom of the box is the correct one. its just a flat washer around 2mm thick X about 70mm round to prevent end float in the shaft..... which can cause problems if the washer isnt in place.
Cant buy toyota 2T ( W50) gearbox to housing gaskets anymore . so i will be using red silicone to form an oil tight seal.
