What are the rules for registration in NSW in regards to an FB ute?

A friend of mine who restored a mini cooper said I should get club rego, but from what I can gather club rego is conditional in nsw and can only be driven to club events.

I wanted to restore a ute and take it to the deni ute muster and drive it to other things can someone give me some idea what my options are and an idea of cost?

Full rego can be anything from 700 bucks to 1 grand, though you can drive it anytime and anywhere.

Club rego in NSW is strict, though much cheaper. You need to be a member of an RTA approved club, and you can basically only drive it to club sanctioned runs, or to get repaired.

that can depend on the club rules most that i know of let you drive to any car related event, if it's modified they're pretty restrictive though

Thought as much as being in my 20's I attend BNS balls and I've seen one or two Kingswoods with victorian and queensland club badges but none with NSW do the rego rules differ from state to state?

Get full rego and drive it when ever and where ever you want.

My bike is on club rego. Occasionally I have called the club registra when I've wanted to go for a ride outside club events. Usually as long as they know where you are going and the times they write it in the book and you are covered.
Its not encouraged though. I'm figuring you would be able to make the ute muster a sectioned event and then it wouldn't be a problem.
I going to put the rest of my stuff on club rego as well. I'm over paying over $1000 to keep a car on the road.

Isn't there vintage rego as well I think you can drive as much as you like but only the owner not shaw about that though

We have a thing down here in Tassie called Special Interest Rego , you can drive your car 52 days a year, when or where you like , at a reduced cost , you just have to keep a logbook of the days used and the kilometres done to prove your usage .

Do you have anything like that ??

I wish we did Rusty as that sounds ideally what I'd need, but it's not like the RTA to make anything easy or logical :!:

Jeez , we are not that backwards done here then :lol: Its a good way to do it if you are not using it as an everyday .

If you want to full rego the car. You need to get a blue slip from your local mechanic. If your car is kept stock it doesn't even need to have seat belts.

I work at a Holden dealership so I know what I'll need for rego, but I wonder is it still considered stock if for safety reasons the drum brakes are replaced with disk brakes?

Theres plenty of grey powerd early holdens running disc brakes with no other mods, but you will need to have a change to the braking system engineered even though its a change for improved safety. Thats just the way it is in NSW at the moment and they do keep revising the guidelines so it is a pain to keep up with, if its only the brakes you have a concern with what about putting a booster on the drum brakes.
Won't be as good as discs but will be an improvement, I know of people who have put disc brakes and red motors in and think they have got around the rego hassles through dodgy pinkslips but then get defected off the road for unengineered mods.
