What to use to reseal tail lights

Post by John »

Around the tail light they was a grey (silastic) of some type. It looked original.
About to put the tail lights back in and wondering what everyone was using to seal between the light and the body?
Not all chemicals are bad. Without chemicals such as hydrogen and
oxygen, for example, there would be no way to make water, a vital
ingredient in beer

There is a product used in kitchens for sealing hotplates and sinks to the benchtop that comes in a roll with non stick paper between. Dont know what its called but you might be able to get it from an appliance spare parts store, maybe Bunnnings or plumbing supplier. Lot more user friendly than using messy silicones and is a similar consistancy to the original. Then again you could buy shares in Blu-tac.

Glazing tape would do the same trick.

It's used between the glass and the window instead of silicone.

Yeh thats it same stuff. Certainly lot less mess. No matter how hard you try silicone has a mind of its own. Also makes it easier to remove light if need be without damaging the paint. Silicone sticks like sh.. to a blanket and you'll never remove the light without damage to the paint.

This post is just to make sure that you are aware the link I put up is not for silicon.
It is for Mastic,a product manufactured for this application.

I would (have) use the mastic over tape.
