Bench seat alternatives for panelvan/utes

Post by reddo »

Hi
I currently have HR bucket seats in my FB Van. While they are comfy and look tidy in the van , they are not all that practical.
There is only about80mm gap between the 2 .. not wide enough for a console or similar to fit in between them.

So... seeing as though i swapped the original bench seat for the buckets i am now on the hunt for either another original bench seat out of any FB/EK.. .colour doesnt matter but would need to be in good condition with no broken springs etc.. fussy bugger arent I..
Or..
Other thoughts are maybe a bench seat out of a late model Jappo ute . Seem to remember someone on here using one out of a Rodeo/ or was it &*#@ courier.... gggggggggggaassssssssppppppp.. a &*#@ seat in a Holden??.. is nothing sacred!!
Anyone used one of those seats??
If so.. how hard is it to make up the rails/slides to fit the FB/EK floorpan.??

Any advice
Would swap the HR buckets to get a good tidy FB/EK bench seat back again. .... history goes full cycle...

I had the original bench seat in an HR ute modified so it would fit a Celica 5 speed in it. The trimmer cut about a third of the way into the base of the seat and welded in a frame so it looked neat. It bolted in as per factory. You could do the same to fit a console in too.

can you post a pic of your seats in the car as i have a not bad front bench but with me running a aussie 4 speed i lifted the seat 2 inches to clear the shifter and it's giving me the sh*ts.
cheers, luke.

hi , i had one with a hq seat in it with the fold down arm reat ( luxury ! )
every one said it wouldnt fit ....
put one rail on ,pack with spacers to suit, use grade 8 bolts thicker than original.
then drop a length of steel accross to the other side, place your spirit level on the steel
( or use a really long sprit level ) then bring up the other side to suit
you will probably need to replace the seat belts so the stalks sit right
as spending ten minutes finding the too short ones gets old

i then 'swan necked ' 'the shiter with an oxy it was pretty extreme but the princess is short so the seat needed to go fully forward......
cheers!
Remember....this is a recreational activity !
