After chasing one for awhile I have come to realise I'd have more of a chance of finding rocking horse sh%t.
I'm in Tassie so getting a stainless one freighted down from Queensland will be too expensive.
So, today I called a local metal fabrication business 10 minutes up the road and asked them the question.

Their answer, "Yep, no worries, we often do fuel tanks. Drop the original in and we'll give you a quote.We can basically do it straight away"

I'm a happy camper

Dropped my rusty tank in today for them to quote.
I just got the call, $380 plus GST
So it's getting made.
I'll post pics when I get it back.

Can they make it deeper like the ones from QLD?

Yep, it's going to be a tad deeper.
Only thing may be the sender unit.

That is a great price, I got quoted nearly 4 times that to build me a new tank in Melbourne.

It will be great to see some pics the quality of tank you get for that price, if it's good I'm sure they will be getting more work!

got quoted over $400 to modify a fuel tank and they would not tell me how long it would take them to do it or guarantee their work from faults...

After a couple of trials we are nearly there. Just need to make sure it fits fine then position the filler neck in the correct position. The first tank they made was good but a little too small. The came in abit on the sides but kept the depth the same. This one is much better.

Looks like it will do the job nicely. The only issue I may have is that the original looks like it has some kind of Baffle/divider in it. The new one doesn't. I suppose thats only to stop the fuel slapping around in the tank?

You really need some baffles in it , you sure there arent any ? If this bloke is an experienced tank builder surely he would have put something in there ???

G,day John , how have they made it ? Bit hard to see in the side on shot , is it a square tank with a plate welded to the top ?

HE's a metal fabricator, not a tank builder. As for the baffle what will be my issues without baffles?
Definately doesnt have any. The original EK tank seems to just have one plate running across about half way. So if i get these guys to cut a slot across the top of the tank and drop in a baffle then weld the tank across the top I should be OK?

Yep mate. Exactly. A little narrower underneath than the EK but he made up for that by going a couple of inches deeper.
