extractors
extractors
are standard extractors ok for triple carb application & stage 1 cam, in a standard red 202 or do i need to get something better? im just trying to get gear together to assemble my engine, and is it worth slapping roller rockers in there?
Re: extractors
Standard extractors are fine even for stock engines but don't expect them to provide much in the way of performance by themselves. They are best used in conjunction with other modifications (e.g., high performance camshaft, higher compression, ported head with bigger valves and increased carburation).
Roller rockers are expensive unless you want to rev the ring out of your engine.

Re: extractors
well i was considering
port and polish (havent done it yet)
stage 1 cam (havent bought it yet)
triple carbs (already own)
stainless valves ( so i can run standard unleaded? ) (havent bought)
extractors (havent bought)
celica 5 speed box (havent bought)
dunno about diff yet, i would like a lsd but havent really looked into it yet.
sorry if i sound little noobish this is the first time im lookin at doin soemthing to a engine thats not replacing stock with stock.
wats my option for compression? shaved head? i gotta stick with the red 202 head to suit the triple carb manifold dont i?

Re: extractors
this may be stating the bleeding obvious , but does your inlet manifold match the head you are planning on using ? There are 9 port and 12 port heads in the red/blue/black motor range .............
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Re: extractors
Roller rockers are over kill on an engine that won't be revved for sustained periods of time, save your money
.

Re: extractors
A "Stage One" cam has (very roughly) around 200 - 210 degrees of duration at 50 thou. With a mild cam like this, the intake valves are closing not that much later than they did with the stock cam. So you could get away with stock compression or you could shave the head for slightly higher compression. Remember that you have to match the static compression ratio to the size of the cam you are using - the bigger the cam the higher the compression has to be. The classification of camshafts in "stages" is pretty inaccurate, so it pays to know a cam profile in more exacting terms, such as duration at 50 thou and Lobe Separation Angle (LSA) (the LSA indicates how much overlap there is).Davet wrote:wats my option for compression? shaved head? i gotta stick with the red 202 head to suit the triple carb manifold dont i?
To run unleaded you need to install hardened valve seats in the head. Or put valve lube in the tank each time you fill up.
