as the topic says, im keen to put gas struts on to hold the bonnet up on my FB Ute and i'd like to know if anyone else has done it and if they have, how did they do it ?
any info and/or pics would be great, i have some struts off a Commodore bonnet but im not sure how to mount them.

Why do you need struts to hold up your bonnet?
I've seen alot of fb's and ek's not one with a set of stuts!
Unless you've modified your bonnet hinges?

yeah i am wanting to remove the springs from the hinge to give me more clearance for the Commodore brake booster, and if i remove the spring and leave the original hinge in place its perfect, but then i just need it to stay up

I've seen a chain used. You hook it on only when you want to keep the bonnet open.
Or better yet how about pinching a rod (?) setup of a car so when open you unclip it and hook it into a spot it holds the bonnet up?

these are good options, but struts are more modern and hassle free

Define Hassle free, you've still got to set them up to work
Me personally I prefer simpler solutions, but then again with the V6 anything but struts would be out of place...

by hassle free i mean once the mounts are sorted out and everythings installed they should be hassle free, except for when they loose there gassiness and the bonnet falls down
i want to use commodore struts (as i have 2 sets) the wagon tailgate struts and bonnet struts are the same so this should mean they can handle a fair bit of weight and also will be fairly common to find if replacements are needed.

good information there, i was more hoping someone with a FB/EK had done it, as i believe custom brackets will need to be made and i was keen to see if anyone else had them for that reason.

My wifes V6 EK has a single gas strut in the middle of the bonnet , its mounted above the wiper motor on the lip and onto a bracket welded onto the rods that cross over under the bonnet skin.
It was done before we bought it and works well.
