Handbrake relocation
Handbrake relocation
I have an EK which currently has HR buckets and a centre console handbrake setup. I have sourced an EK bench which is at the upholsterers having new life breathed back into it. Obviously going back to the bench I'll have to relocate the handbrake and I'm leaning towards an HQ/WB setup with the handle to the right of the driver between the door. Has anyone used this setup before and will there be enough clearance between the door and the seat slider mechanism? I have a HQ handle but without the seat being in the car I can't trial fit and I obviously need to relocate the handbrake before I fit the seat. I'd prefer this setup over going back to the original setup but if I can't then so be it. Any advice is appreciated. Cheers.
Re: Handbrake relocation
How wide is the HQ hand brake steup?
There is enough room between the seat and pillar for an inertia real seatbelts so it might fit, Trev

Yeah I've got the seatbelts already so I know what you're saying about that. What I'm iffy about is the seat slider knob etc fouling on the handbrake handle itself. It's going up on the hoist at the brake shop next week so I'll know a bit more then as far as how to approach the rest.

I haven't done any more yet. I have Rodeo bench to install, which has seat adjuster at the front, so I'm hoping it will fit OK

Re: Handbrake relocation
Any chance that someone can give me the measurement between the seat and the closed drivers door and the seat slider knob and the door?
Re: Handbrake relocation
Theres only about 55mm in my ute from the knob to the door.
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Patrick,
I don't want to hijack this thread but have started another one regarding the use of different seats in FB EK cars.
Could you please check it out.

Re: Handbrake relocation
Found some guys to tackle the job and I'll let you know how it all works out. Rust and paint first...

Re: Handbrake relocation
Well finally got the handbrake done.
After a couple of attempts the HQ setup was abandoned in favour of an original setup until we worked out that it couldn't be done with the crossmember for the 5spd in the way.
So back to plan A
After another couple of attempts and broken cables I ended up at a different workshop and now have a functioning HQ/WB brake setup. It's still fouling a little on the HR seat slider knob occasionally but once the bench goes back in there'll be no problem as I've had the slider mechanism relocated to the front on that one.
Cabling and final handbrake setup was done by Suncoast Automotive Services at Maroochydore and I couldn't be happier with them.
They can make up cables and brake hoses in house.

Re: Handbrake relocation
Hi Ya mag600
I am mainly interested in how you did the handbrake cable through the floor section and did you use the original HQ under the floor section there also where and how you mounted this pivot????

Thanks

Re: Handbrake relocation
Well I can tell you that about the only genuine part of the HQ setup is the handle itself and the positioning.
The cabling and routing was all done to suit the under-floor mods and uses my existing rear setup (HR drums, 9" diff etc) and uses some of the pulleys I had from an original front setup. It now works as well as my centre handbrake did, which is to say well enough
I'll work on those photos for you still. Should be a couple of weeks.
