geez ... thats probably pushin it Mal ... we are currently looking for our first house to buy so once that transaction is completed im not sure im going to have the funding to have it finished in that short a period of time .... i'd say theres still a few yrs work in it yet.

stopped in at the engine reconditioners this morning, looks like early next week i should be able to get the engine so hopefully by the end of next week i'll have some pics and progress on it!

so far so good, pistons measured up ok, crank is fine, and bores should be right with only a light hone so all on track!

man, you must be a patient man still a few years off
out of curiosity why rebuild the motor now if plans are for such a long build

If I found out my project was going to take years to complete, it would be gone. But I know that I'm way to impatient and anything I start need to be worked on all the time or I loose interest.

I guess, one has to get his priorities right. Happy wife, happy life.

rat - i've had this project since 2001 it's changed from a sedan into a ute but the rest has been the same and slowly progressing ... initially i had peasent wages and lots of rust to fix so it was slow going, but over the yrs i have moved to better job and ute with no rust so that has helped alot but mainly just getting the time and money is the main slowdown ....

rebuild the motor now, well theres a few reasons, first and fore most, it had water cover it over the top of the motor so it needed something ... couldn't run it at the time of the flood (wet computer) so chose to strip the motor and hope that its all in usable condition at the end of the day (which it was) so now i need to get it back in there and going so i can finish off the conversion tasks and then get an engineers certificate ... once i do that it should simply be a matter of paint/panel/trim then put it together ....

as i see it i have to rebuild it now or later so i may aswell do it now cause its hard to get access to the car (its stored at a mates place) but i have enough room at my place to rebuild the engine now.

Mal - i have a LH Torana which has been worked over too so i have something to keep me entertained and drive daily while i patiently wait for the ute to be done i'm never going to sell it unless i have no choice so i'm happy to take my time and do it right so its nice to drive forever!

oh and i like your theory, its true however im not going to be happy either until i get a house!

well not much happening with the house at the moment, just looking for the right one

anyways onto the engine ... finally got it back and starting on the assembly ... i love new engines, you wash clean oil off your hands at the end of the night

firstly, the banana shaped conrod that was removed from the engine ... still not really sure how it happened!


i started on the heads first because they are easy and it gets alot of little bits out of the way...




then i had to clean the block (remove all the honing oil and metal flakes)




last night saw the crank/cam and timing gear all in there, hopefully tonight i'll get the pistons all in and have some more picies!

There a small engine when you see them all pulled down like that.
Is it going to be stock or have you been tempted and stuck a lumpy stick in its guts.

nah shes stock as a rock mal, other than removing the balance shaft and rollmaster timing set ....

this one is going to be the stocker for engineering and rego, then i'll build a worked motor ... i have started head porting on it

another quick update, last night was very productive, got the pistons all in and torqued up, also got the heads on and got them torqued down aswell...







hopefully tonight i'll get the lifters and rocker gear in there ... thursday hopefully going to rare spares to get some alloy tappet covers and then it will be getting close!

well looking back at the last post it looks like it took close to 1 month to get the alloy tappet covers .... but they were worth the wait!

i've almost completed assembling the inlet manifold, i've also 'revised' the colour scheme on the top of the manifold to something much more suitable

progress has been slow as i have been waiting for things like the tappet covers and also been fairly bussy with buying the house .... anyways, enjoy the pics!





im debating the idea of painting gold in the box around the V6 on the tappet covers - still undecided ....

hopefully in the next few days i'll be able to paint the block gold then i can screw the alloy bits to it once and for all!!

Good progress with the motor, whats your next step when the motors finished. Did you have the motor running in the car prior to pulling it out??

plan is once the motors done, put a service kit through the T700 then throw it all back in ... and yeah it was running fine before the flood, im hoping my dried out body control module and ecu will both work. if they do i'll be stoked ....

once thats done its back to where it was before the flood and hopefully by that time i will be into my own house and with a nice new shed and i can then work on it regularly

8th june was the flood and i've only done the motor since on that car ... thats just not on!
