Got the grey all back together today to see how well she runs,
before I put too much effort into painting her up.

Because the EK is still on its side it made a little hard to fit.
So we sat her on the garage floor added all the bits, radiator, gearbox, exhaust and 'diet coke' fuel tank.

This is what we ended up with........

Image

She started first try and purred like a kitten :!:
Just a little smokey, maybe rings :?:

Good stuff EKSPCL 8)
What wiring is required to run a motor on its own?
Being able to test run mine now, might save some headaches later
Cheers

Just put power to the coil and to the starter motor. (the 2 jumper leads in the pic)

Earth to the motor. (the earth cable that normally runs to the battery)

Make sure you have fuel (diet coke in my case, but apparently leaded coke works better)

Then bridge the starter motor where your ignition attatches with a screw driver.

Remembering you can't tell if the motor is overheating  so don't run for too long just incase.

And if blow yourself up it's your own fault not mine :!:

In addition to what EKSPL has said,

Try and get another person to hold the motor as well especially on startup as they can fall over on you( has happened to me  ) when the torque reaction to revving happens.

Try and chock the motor to help stop it falling over or build a crude frame or whatever.

Basically to startup on floor you are just copying the same wiring and startup procedure that happens in the engine bay.

In the cold weather we have ATM you could get away with 1 or 2 minutes of running without water in the engine at all before it would start to get too hot.

With the setup as EKSPL has as is with water in cooling system you could get away with at least 5 minutes of running ( with water pump not working) or with water pump/generator/cooling fan setup and working and as EKSPL has it, you could get away with near indefinate running as it would be basically the same as it is setup in a running car.

I always floor start an engine before fitting as it allows me to get an idea if an engine is any good BEFORE I go to all the trouble of fitting and THEN find that the engine isn't any good ( yep, done that as well  ).

I have my motor sitting on a homemade trolley with wheels.
The motor is attached by the engine mounts.
It should be perfect

Here's this weekends efforts....

I rolled it back onto its feet to make it easier to work on the inside of the floor.

Is this too low :?:
Image

Bit more welding to fix-up my crap 'beginners' welds.
You really notice how bad your first welds were when you look
back over them a couple of months later
Image

Bare metal "no rust" ,finally :D drivers side floor...
Image

Rust converted driver's side floor.....
Image

Fish oiled driver's side floor....
Image

Welded in a new rear passengers side floor (much improved welding)
Image

Very happy with this weekends efforts, finally some good progress.
Now to do the passenger's front floor.
This will only be the front corner near the pillar(hopefully  ).
Then rust converter and fish oil to this side.
Rust kill enamel the whole floor, then sound deadener.
If the rust gets in then it can have the thing :!:
