problem in honeypot, shifter had come out of the notch in steering tube, hence no first or reverse.
new leads, replaced a headlight... hit the road tomorrow, lookout!

one more thing. what temp should a grey run
at? mines running between 80c - 90c ?

Good stuff Stu, as for what temp that's dictated by the thermostat. You'd need to know what the heat range is of the thermostat you put in. Seems like its about right, most radiator places I've been too recommend running a thermostat around 180 (82c).

dr... sounds about right... under load gets up to about 90... then pulls back... thanks...
all good today... feels good... and with the twin carbs it pulls along really well... will have to refrain from yanking on the shifter

to anyone debating the whole grey motor thing.. needs to at least experience it... for me... i'm hooked...
it just seems to suit these cars... that whole nostalgic feel.. the sound.. the stench.. the oil left behind ! 8)

G'day all.... has been great cruising in the ute, putting some daily miles into it. :D

though, it has just developed a grinding noise behind the speedo/dash.
speedo gear or speedo cable? gets worse as speed increases. stu 8)

Speedo innards, pull it out straight away and oil it before you destroy the speedo

Speedo, mine was doing it on and off all the way home from narrandera. You can oil them but it needs to be very light oil but it doesn't to last too long. I put another speedo in mine.

Come to think of there is a really good how to on the HAMB for oiling a speedo (50's chev basically the same). I'll link it when I find it.

Mine did that grinding once on a very cold morning over a year ago. Hasn't done it since.

Hooked it up a month later all was good till 2 odd years later, been oiling it every 6 months or so ever since till the last one, innards somewhat shagged....

I use 'tri flow' lube for all my cables on bicycle, motorcycles and cars,

it's a bicycle cable lube... extremely thin and available from your most bicycle shops.
smells good too!

You did say you would pick it up before Xmas, but I really wasn't thinking it would have been THIS Xmas  .
Wait till you hear the diff that I gave you    .
If you can hear your diff it means your music isn't loud enough  :D .
