The HR front end crossmember has to be modified for the V8.They cut into the middle rear section and ( stuck for the right word here at the moment?? ........ ) weld in a recessed and strengthened ramp section starting at the rear leading edge of the crossmember and sloping upwards and forwards to enable the V8 sump to fit and to allow the engine to move forward in the event of an accident.
Pretty much similar slope to the look of a HQ/WB crossmember or LH/LX/UC Torana crossmember.
Front mount rack also requires a small recess cut into part of the right front leading edge to allow clearance for the rack column shaft to fit and not rub on the crossmember.
A picture tells a thousand words.I've got a HR V8 CRS front end here to go in my 307 EK so will take some pics over the weekend of it and post them up if that helps but won't be able to do it until Sunday though.
Don't know why the rare spares outlet you spoke to yogie was being so pedantic about the HR crossmember being dented underneath
most, if not all, HR front ends would be dented underneath from being jacked up under the crossmember over all the years, same as most FB/EK's.
If they absolutely adherred to the "no dent" policy they would never get a HR crossmember as a changeover!!
