The flywheel with time gets marks on it from the clutch, it can also get small hair line cracks in it so in order for the clutch to get the best life span and contact surface it has to be machined perfectly smooth.

The flywheel is larger than the clutch is, so a 8.5 inch clutch will still be ok.

I can confirm that a red clutch will go straight onto it as we did it in Amandas old Ek.

Cheers Josh

Thanks Josh thats making more sense now. I was thinking that the machining meant taking the flywheel down in diameter, but now i see how it all works, thanks again.

yeah it just machines the face of it where the clutch and flywheel meet.

Gotcha, what's a ball-park cost of getting the flywheel machined?

Possibly $60? From memory, could be wrong though. You will find the clutch warranty will be void if you dont get the flywheel machined so really you gotta do it

The machined face on the eh pressure plate is larger than the face of the grey motor clutch.
utilising the same mounting points

So this is a good thing then me thinks? Bigger contact surface=longer lasting?

On a side note, a had a little car trouble today- as i put my foot down there was a very loud "air suction" noise and a very noticeable lack of acceleration. Had a look and couldn't see anything out of the ordinary, tightened up all lines to the carby and manifold bolts, got back in and it drove ok but the problem continued off and on for the rest of the ride home. Any ideas?
Maybe i should put this in a separate thread...
