If you have oxy/acetylene gear you could try heating the nut underneath with one of the smaller size tips to at least a red colour and then give the bolt a turn whilst it's still red. Will have to get the carpet/floor rubber lifted up before doing this obviously and you will burn underfloor sealer paint etc but its the best method of being able to remove rusted/seized/rounded head bolts, nuts etc.

You could heat it with gas but I've found gas won't get hot enough to work effectively.

Maybe try another slightly smaller size socket ( even try metric ) and see if you can knock it on to the head of the bolt so its tight and give it some twist to see if it slips or holds on the bolt head.

From memory those two bolts are 7/16th head ( or maybe 3/8th :?: ) so metric equivalent of that ( 7/16th head) is 11 mm, try that.

Or if the head is really rounded try knocking on a 3/8th or 10 mm socket. The vibrations from even knocking on the sockets can help to loosen the bolt/nut's hold to each other.

There are a number of specialist tools available to buy that are designed to remove rounded off bolts/nuts/studs etc that may help but you would have to go to a tool specialist to get them.

Or if everything else fails you could try and grind off the bolt head and drill out the bolt thread and put a new bolt in ( if the thread is still OK in the nut that is ) or use a new nut and bolt.

An air driven ( or electric ) die grinder is the best tool to use for the grinding down of the bolt head if you have one otherwise you will have to try and see if an angle grinder can be used.

Cover the interior of the car before grinding as upholstery doesn't like grinding sparks!!

Or as Trev has suggested, cut extend and weld the pedal arm you want to lengthen in its current position without removing the pedal assembly but from memory, its not in an easy to get at position where it is and could be a pain in the arse to do it that way but if pedal assembly can't be removed then thats the only other way to extend the arm.

Just had another thought.

In that last pick of yours showing the cable end where it joins the holly carb throttle arm,are you able to take another pic showing the throttle arm itself ??

Reason being, if there are other adjustment/fitment holes in the throttle arm ( there usually is ) that are in a closer position to the throttle arm pivot point ( the throttle butterfly shaft ) then by fitting the cable to one of the closer-to-pivot-point holes you can get further throttle arm travel for the same amount of cable travel you are getting at the moment and maybe won't have to touch the accelerator pedal end of the cable at all.

Only drawback of doing this is you may get a throttle feel that is a bit too sensitive.

OK with a 3/8th headed bolt you could try knocking on a 10 mm socket and see how it fits.10 mm is nearly the same size as 3/8th but a poofteenth smaller which is better in your case as it will knock on tight.

Another hint is to use a single hex socket ( not double hex sockets like most sockets are) as single hex sockets are less prone to round off the heads of bolts by the nature of the design.

If 10 mm socket slips you could try a 9 mm one but I'd doubt it would fit.

Best bet is to heat the nut underneath and unscrew the bolt whist the nut is still red hot as I've mentioned above as thats the best way of removing the bolt without it snapping off.

If it snaps off you will have to drill it out.

hmmm

am going to try to put a smaller socket on it shortly (when i finish gettin my hair done)...lol

its all WD40'd up.

also....might just remove it..and get another pedal.

if weld it..cant leave it in the car...as the rubber on pedal will melt....needs to be cooled down ever so quickly.

don't worry if it hasn't come out yet i don't think it will using methods that you are
possably try maybe last resort drill the bolts out from under the car and then nut and bolt the pedal back in

still no luck

ok..my easy outs are too big

underneath the car...the nuts look like they are welded onto a plate or something..theyre covered with that much deadener and paint.....faaark....

any ideas?

cant get the pedal out of the way enough INSIDE the car..to get any socketes on properly anyways.....grrr

1 bolt to go

ok..well....looks like i have a plate built with nuts welded into it at the underneath of my car..that you DONT remove..lol

so far...used the smallest easy out to get one nut out....the other ones farked..so i just bought a screw extractor..and goin to drill that into the remaining bolt...and see what i can do...

here goes nothin

Drill a second hole just above the first on the accelerator and bolt an extension piece in, use nyloc nuts too
If another hole can't be drilled, get a small piece of sheetmetal and fashion it into a rectangular washer then fold the sides over the end of the accelerator to support an extension.
Give me a call if you don't know what I mean.

cheers

YAY.

thanks for info but.

cheers glenn

Now just a quick tidy up underneath......and im right..

OH...and in the other thread..THANKYOU so much guys for the "weld on a 2 inch bit" idea. It DOES work.

Unbelievable..but TRUE.

Full throttle here we come....
